But damnit I still want to give them a chance and pick up a bottle of their stuff once in a while. Last week I picked up a bottle of MO since it was on sale ($6.99) - I remember the first time I had it at the brewery the stuff was incredibly good, I told the folks at my local bottle shop how great it was and to buy it up when they got the chance.

I think they kind of thought I was an asshole after they got their first delivery and it was a complete letdown based on their response after trying it - I bought a couple bottles from them after they took delivery and it was a completely anemic watery pale.

And then there was "Another One" (where they talk about running low on creative juices on the label.) Give me a break.

One month old Lunch is not that bad. Ive had almost 2 months old and enjoyed it just as much. Slightly different in taste but still a great IPA. Dont understand all the backlash toward Maine Beer Co./Lunch. If its too pricey for you, dont buy it.

I've had fresh and 1 month old Lunch, although you could taste a slight difference with the hops dropping off, both were great. I actually just poured a fresh Lunch next to a fresh Odell IPA and they were almost identical. A little more malt to Odell (hence the ridiculously smooth body). Do What's Right...and buy MBC

god damn, one month isn't even that old! I don't think it's that big of a deal. I grab Lunch every so often.

Most say you should drink an IPA within 60 days of bottling. MBC says 90 on the bottle. All I'm saying is this: if MBC is going to ask people to pay premium prices, I should be able to get damn fresh beer - especially if I'm 2 hours from the brewery. Having month old product at $8 per bottle is silly. Now, I know some of this might be the fault of the store, but I think we all know MBC has issues with this everywhere.

Seriously, 1 month? You do know the beer has to be sent to a distributors warehouse, which doesn't happen the day the product is bottled, then the account needs to wait until they need an order on their scheduled delivery day, which sometimes is only once every 2 weeks. Unless a brewery is self distributing product how can you expect product to always be less than a month old. This seems ridiculous to me.

Breweries, particularly local ones, have the ability to get their product to consumers within a week of bottling. MBC has the ability to get New England fresh product - Craft Beer Cellar in Belmont got bottles of week old lunch today. If this were Sam, SN, Dogfish, etc I wouldn't think anything of it. Big breweries that ship huge amount of product around the country. MBC prides themselves on producing top quality FRESH beer. I don't think month old Lunch, a beer that literally tells you to drink it fresh on the bottle, is acceptable. If I lived 1500 miles away, I'd probably say "that's as fresh as I'm getting". If MBC wants to ask New England customers to pay their absurd prices, they damn well better back it up with 1-2 week old Lunch. Again, I can't fully blame MBC. This store could have had a box out back since the bottling that they periodically release. If that's the case then full blame goes to the store.

EDIT: My original post was meant as more of a "holy cow, Lunch usually gets snatched up so fast I never thought I'd see month old product on the shelf." As MBC threads typically go, this one has devolved...

When Lunch is bottled it typically arrives and is on shelves in the Boston area within a few days, 1 week at most. I'm not one to complain about month old IPAs at all (honestly that's the best you're gonna get with a lot of places). The issue is that you can justify spending $8 for 16oz of 2 day old IPA, not 1 month old

You really should only be consuming this beer between noon and 3:00 PM.

I think people flip out over IPA freshness a bit too much. FWIW, I can't tell the difference between 3 week old and new (and I've done a taste test)

I've still never seen a bottle of Lunch and I look every time I'm at a store (and I go to a lot of beer stores). I'm hoping to one day find one.

Straight ignant, son. Good People's Snake Handler is excellent, as is anything BA'd by Straight to Ale, Straight to Ale's Monkeynaught, Tallgrass's 8-Bit and Terrapin. Not to mention occasional CCB.

If you are looking for Lunch, Bin Ends, a Braintree wine shop with decent beer selection posted
on FB today that their brand new Needham store had just got it in. Don't have the address but it's in an industrial area next to Channel 5's station.

And once everyone get their ticks in, nothing really there to entice many people back for repeat buys - unlike Heady Topper.

I love MBC beer on tap - so much fresher tasting and about the same price as retail. It's worth the money on draft - bottles, not so much.

A few days ago I picked up what will probably be my last bottle of Lunch for a long time, just so I could do a proper review. I'd rather have 2 sixers of Flower Power than 3 bottles of Lunch.
