So I'm browsing the aisles at Total Wine in Tustin today and about to leave empty-handed, when a beer cart suddenly showed up that had a case of Pliny on top and tons of the latest Enjoy By.

Wanting both, I get both. Of course, limit one on the Pliny. I won't bitch about that for now.

So I get home and look at the date on the Pliny. Wow! Over a month old!?!?

I'd have still bought the entire case if I could, but a month old?

I've drank older Pliny than this that I found in the back of my fridge, and loved it.

Figured I'd ask the tribe: Is this a reason to be upset, or is it just the way it goes?

I actually saw a bunch of 2 mo old pliny at Vendome in Pasadena. 2 bottle limit bc they were trying to move that old swill haha.

Passed on it because I was on the way out for the night and didn't feel like leaving it in my trunk all night

Dont fret over it. Just be glad we are still seeing bottles of the elder here in SoCal. This may dissapear from us soon. Sign of the times.

30 day old Pliny is just fine. I think you're over reacting just a bit.

60 day old... Yea, that's not good.

    90 day old... Armageddon!!!!

As I said, I'd have bought the whole case. I probably could have, too. The girl at the checkout didn't know it was limit one. I walked up and I had my 5 year old boy with me. I asked her if I could get another one and count it as his as a visitor to Total Wine - just joking around. And in a dizzy way she looked at me and said "oh, are they limit one?" I told her she should ring up 2 and I'd go get another as a perk for being honest with her. She wouldn't. I actually think she should have done that. One good deed should follow another...

I could have possibly had the whole case. What would have happened if I had done that? Surely the staff there, who is usually very attentive and knowledgable, would have noticed that an entire case was missing suddenly. Would they have gone into the receipts, saw my name on the debit, put 2 and 2 together, and black listed me?

I dunno, it would have been worth it. :grinning:

I go there regularly. The Pliny always sells out fast but is never less than 2 weeks old. Very often it's a month old. My palate isn't good enough to care about the age.

I cant imagine drinking month old Pliny. I already have a hard time drinking day old pliny, seeing as how i prefer it straight from the fermentor.

I was at Nugget Market on Friday & the beer guy told me Pliny had come in that day, grabbed 2 bottles and yeah, it was the 8/27 batch. No big deal, just seemed a little strange.

Buddy of mine said the same thing. Picked up at whole foods today 8/27/2014. Got some from the brewery this weekend: bottle date 9/23/2014. Also the newer bottled ones seem to have a new stamp. Looks like a different date stamp than before. Sorry no picture.

There is a place down the street from me that gets it weekly and for some reason it is always a month old. I am guessing the distributor is sitting on it for some reason

Instead of posting here, just ask Russian River. They're great about addressing issues like this and if a distributor is truly holding it back, Russian River will address that also.
