Drinking an Alesmith Moonlight Peach and wondering, did they mess something up on this beer? First came the delay in finishing the beer (or Cocoa Fluffs, but that one seems to have come out ok).

But now that it’s out, it seems to have a tartness that feels off putting and out of place. I’m no brewer or beer judge, just a beer drinker. But with vanilla, peach, and lactose shouldn’t this be a tart-free zone?

Not trying to stir anything up, just genuinely interested to hear the opinions of others.

I take it back. Four weeks later and the tartness has faded considerably. It's a significantly better beer now, although maybe still not quite what my mind is expecting from a peachy IPA. Bravo.

I'm glad you had the guts to come back and admit you were wrong. Craft beer could stand to see more of this kind of behavior.

I mean, I guess. I’m not trying to be a hero, I’m just trying to call it like it is. When it came out, the taste was alarmingly tart and weird and non-peachy. When I taste it now, it’s peachy and good. Frankly, it’s a little strange to see that no one else in this crowd of experienced beer people had the same impression.

Still, it’s eventual success makes me consider it yet another solid testament to just how good the Alesmith crew really is. But it did worry me to have spent a lot of money for an IPA that as it turns out only tasted better after 2-3 months in the fridge. I didn’t expect I’d have to wait for a positive result (it is a bit strange to hold off for months to taste an IPA) but if I had known that might have been their plan then I gladly would have waited before proffering an opinion.

peaches + vanilla + lactose ipa would make me go in expecting some tartness. not sure why you think otherwise.
