Any recommendations on places to grab dinner and some good beers? Also, how about a good bottle shop in the area? Thanks.
Jack's Draft House in Scranton. Not a huge selection, but it's a quality one. Even has a few Cantillon bottles. For bottle shops head down to Wilkes-Barre to J&H Beer on route 315 or Sabatini's Pizza in Exeter.
The Arena in Wilkes-Barre has good beers on tap. Kind of a sports bar type vibe, but they always have something good. http://www.arenabarandgrill.com/draft.html Also, I second Sabatini's.
If you looking for a combination of amazing food and the assurance of a nice beer selection, you can't go wrong at Aurants. https://www.facebook.com/AuRants If you are looking for nice pub fare and a wider, but not as exclusive a beer list Aurants, then Backyard Ale House is nice. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Backyard-Ale-House I second Jacks draft house, somewhere between Aurants and Backyard food and beer wise: https://www.facebook.com/jacks.drafthouse Sabatini's in Exeter has nice food (gourmet style pizza and sandwiches) but an aaaaaaaaamazing beer selection. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Sabatinis-Pizza The aforementioned Arena's beer list has been waning as of late, but is still ok ..... the food is ok too, the cheezy club top 40 music blaring is not ideal ..... but they do have a deck which is nice. https://www.facebook.com/arenabar
Cooper's Seafood in Scranton and Cooper's Waterfront in Pittston have been getting better and better lately too. Cooper's Waterfront is tapping a 1/6th of DFH 120 soon, if they haven't already. All drafts are half price from 5-7 as well.
Coopers has been getting better with thier unique, rare beer selections .... but their food is still unedible. For the life of me I have no idea how either of their locations stay open when thier main business is food. It just goes to show you the quality eats nepa expects when a place that should be shut down for crimes agains humanity food wise still exists.
I don't eat much when I am there. I'll get a cup of alligator soup or the caramel salted sweet potato fries. I agree that their food is overall pretty terrible.
Thanks a bunch for the replies. Some great recommendations. I haven't tried old forge pizza yet, I think I should give it a try since I'll be in the area. Any recommendations? Revello's and Arcaro & Genell's seem to get high marks.
MY recommendation is to avoid Old Forge Pizza all together .... the fact that it's called pizza is blasphemy enough, to give credence to it by eating it is akin to funding a terrorist cell. But if you MUST try it just save yourself the gas money and just put some jarred tomato sauce on some toasted white bread and top it with a slice of american cheese ..... boom, Old Forge Pizza!
Food and Beer...Go to AuRants. You won't be disappointed. The food is awesome. The beer selection is great. Pizza in the area...get it from Maroni's Pizza House in West Side. Bottle Shops...J&H, Exit 190 Beer Deli. Also, visit Sabatini's. You can probably skip backyard ale house. They have a large selection, though. Haven't tried the food personally. If they have any sours on draft, you'll get them in a pint glass,...at least there is that! Jack's Draft House has some good stuff - and worth a visit. I haven't been there in several months - but food menu is on the small side..mostly sandwiches/panini's..which are pretty good. Beer selection is usually great quality. Arena Bar and Grill..Food is your typical bar-fare. OK Draft selection..but nothing too special..quantity over quality. Not worth a visit if only here for a couple of days. If you have time - check out Breaker Brewing company in Wilkes-Barre, too. tl;dr: 1. aurants 2. jacks draft house 1. J&H/Sabatini's 2. Exit 190 Beer Deli
Arcaro and Genell's for pizza imo If you want to venture down even further, Pizza Perfect in Trucksville is the best in the area.
my favorite is Endless Brewing in Montrose https://www.facebook.com/pages/Endless-Brewing/238527039560668 well worth the drive especially if youre an Ale or IPA fan
