No, this has nothing to do with a clogged airlock. After 10+ years of homebrewing, I finally got to literally mop a ceiling (okay, not literally, I used a towel instead of a mop). I learned my lesson with airlocks back in ought-four, and while I got beer in the face removing a clogged airlock, I didnt literally get anything on the ceiling. But yesterday, detaching a corny from my kegerator to take to a party, the poppet on the beer out stem got stuck and I ended up with a nice saison volcano. Ive had one get stuck before, like on a small bit of fruit, and push down with screwdriver and it pops back into place. Nope, not this time. I had to release pressure to get it to stop spraying. Literally everything within 10 feet of my kegerator was covered in beer: Ceiling, wall, a table, two chairs, carpet, ME, etc etc. I had a problem with that stem after I cleaned the keg getting it back on properly, I had ended up replacing the washer on the dip tube (which did need replacing) and was able to get it to seal properly, or so I thought. I ended up replacing the stem/poppet yesterday with a set from an empty keg and got things to work for real. Anyway, not sure what lesson for others to learn from this. What Ive learned is that when small parts are behaving wonky, dont force them to work, replace them.
Did you know 2 pints of fluid in a container is actually less fluid than 2 pints sprayed across a surface?
I thought for sure this was an airlock horror story from the title. Good luck with the beer man. Your saison story was a good one.
Reminds me of the time, when I was tapping a corny, and was kneeling next to the keg getting ready to pour the first pint. When my liquid disconnect hose, flew off. Spraying me in the face, soaking me........now all my hoses are always clamped. Lesson learned.
My keezer connections are swivel nuts, with oversized barbs, where the tubing was heated (by dipping in hot water) so that the barb could be forced into it. No clamps, and not going anywhere. The only connection that has blown for me was a CO2 line on the beer gun. It was the one that came with the gun and it was a clamped connection.
Accuflex barrier line? I've got that stuff, man it was a PITA to put on, but once I got 2-3 done, the others were easy. I don't have clamps on it, but it'll take some serious heat and pressure to get those off my swivel barbs!
I would like to comfort you telling I have sprayed ceiling,walls,floor,table,chairs,jockey-box,shelves full of collectable beer bottles, fridge and my face and clothes !!!!!!!!.Worst of all was to put up with my wife and cleaning every single collectable beer bottle.Ufffffffff
