So, fellow beer advocates, When you are drinking a Moralite IPA - do you pour the yeast in? What about with any of the Unibroue beers?
Yes and yes. It is obviously all preference, but as far as Unibroue goes they recommend agitating the bottle before pouring it to stir up the yeast.
I always end up with the yeast as well. I'm wondering how much it changes the flavour. I may have to do some sort of taste test :-)
I have done side by sides with many different beers. And especially hoppy stuff, I always gently swirl and invert bottle/can for a minute or so before pouring...or drinking from the can if instructed to do so....
Moralite yes pour the yeast in. It gets a slow spin in the centrfical and polishing filter to leave a much hop flavour in the beer that filtering takes out. Unibroue I would only pour the yeast in the Blanche. Of course drink the yeast in the other beers but maybe save it for last.
Interesting to see a thread about this. I asked this very question about Mortalite in the 'best Canadian IPA' thread and the good Doc was quick to chime in at that time. Stirring in was my method at that point and remains as a result of the answer I got. In Mortalite it is really more than just yeast at the bottom, it is hop solids that have fallen out of suspension. It returns a nice haze to the beer and avoids the nasty chucks that, IMO, ruin the appearance and mouth feel of the beer.
With most Belgian beers, I tend to save the last 2 ounces and drink them afterward, so as to taste the beer with and without yeast. I don't mind the yeast flavor too much, but I generally prefer the beer clean. As for Moralité, I'm pretty sure that isn't yeast? The beer isn't bottle-conditioned, to my knowledge. I always dump the whole bottle into my glass, so I drink everything at once.
