I have to be out and on my way home before 5. I want to at least be the first 100 or so in line to be sure my wife doesn't kill me. Also the small chance that they will go back to letting the first 100 or so inside before the release starts.

I'm guessing if you get there around 2 you will be standing outside in line for an hour + after 4 anyways.

As someone who lives near More and makes a decent amount of visits there; it is actually fairly normal to have a line to get a table so I don't see anyone being particularly offended. My wife and I know we take a chance anytime we head there that it may be too long of a wait and then we have to head somewhere else. Place is very popular in the area.

I mean a line at the door of 5 people is much different than the 200+ people that will be in line for cans.

If they are doing what it sounds like they are doing, they are saying at 11 if you are there for lunch you have to go stand all the way down the street being everyone waiting for beer, watch them all buy beer, then walk past them to go to the tasting room.

I agree with @Bburns87 , those are totally different things.

I thought they had been doing this for a while now for Henna's, but they haven't done many line-up type stout releases - BA Imperial Falling Colors was recently but it didn't sell out immediately and I don't remember what they did. But I feel like they've been doing this model for a little bit. I agree, I'd prefer a policy of 2 lines.

I’ll have the less popular (I think?) opinion and say I’ll take a lottery or Eventbrite 9 out of 10 times to waiting in a line.

I definitely agree there - but also understand mixing it up a bit.

Absolutely. I just rid myself of all FOMO, so that is NEVER a factor. There will always be something else that’s easier to get. And if not? Oh well!

The only positive about a line wait is you are basically guaranteed an allotment if you show up a little early.

The "everyone in one line at opening" thing makes sense when they have the whole front of house dedicated to sales, as during the Henna bottle line releases. On other days I don't have any idea why they do this, since they have multiple entrances....

yeah, good point. It helps them crush through the line, which they've always been good at. They limit options, make it cash only, and have knocked out 600 (that's the low end) transactions or so in a little over an hour from my experiences. Nobody else does that.

Yeah, but when they did that for the 2018 Hennas with the line down the western trail they opened an hour earlier. Bottle sales started at 10:00 am, then the line for the tap room/restaurant started as people left the bottle purchase line. I can't imagine they would make Joe Local wait an hour just to get lunch if that's all he wants. I think they will be seating people for the bar/restaurant at 11:00 and only doing henna can sales at half the front of house.

considering driving up and waiting. haven't been to one of these at more in a while any idea what a reasonable time of arrival to guarantee cans would be?

also why is a line that bad. it's already annoying driving out there and driving back. another 45-1hr standing around really isn't much different. what's more annoying to me is spending 15 minutes fucking around refreshing a webpage and then getting losing out to some idiot in michigan or indiana.

That is why I propose this as the best beer release format:

Everyone signs up for an online lottery to be given a random number. This random number signifies how many places in line you can cut on release day.

On release day a line will form and the staff will check your random number from the lottery to see how many places you can move up in the physical line. If you are the first person in line and drew a 1 you can't move up any further, but if the person behind you in line has a random number 2, they get to jump in front of you. The line will then shake out according to the numbers assigned, but the first person in line will be better off than if he showed up an hour later.

The first person in line after the number adjustment will then proceed in to the brewpub to a computer kiosk where they will have to enter another online lottery for the release with the winners being announced after the last person in line has entered into the lottery.

Anyone remaining after these hoops gets beer.

they should just drive around the city firing the cans out of one of those shirt guns at random people on the street. it's only fair.

Or everyone has to scatter around Villa Park, and once you get to a spot you have to stay there. Then the cans are shot into the air and you have a special MORE net to catch your BA beers. It’s the only fair way.

Yeah, but usually these guys (don't forget Wisconsin too) are the ones who show up first in line at around midnight-2am anyways. Can't count how many times I've been to a release, asked someone what time the first in line showed up and got a response like. "Dudes drove down from (Wisconsin, Indiana, etc) at around (some ridiculous hour)". Mules as well.
