I'm not on any of those groups, but now I'm really curious how much people are clearing on 2 cans of non-BA coconut stout and 2 4-packs of a milkshake IPA. I mean, this isn't some kind of crazy-took-years-to-make-and-age-and-is-only-released-once-a-year-through-really-hard-to-obtain-methods beer, but what the hell do I know?

Currently a 4-pack of Dbl Vanilla and 1 can of coconut city is closing for about $60. Way too much work IMO to make $30

    Two things:

    1. Just because it is irrational to waste time in a line for the "chance" to make a profit of $20 does not mean that people are not doing it. Let's face it...not everyone on this planet is a genius if you catch my drift. I could care less what people do with their time; but that doesn't mean it will not cease to amaze me. This could go on for five more years and I will still be shocked considering all the options we have.

    2. A few people have posted that nobody wants to list the comparable beers that are available. I didn't think it was necessary since this is a beer forum  But since you asked...next time you feel the need to line up for an hour for a NE DIPA, save $3 and an hour of your time by heading to Binny's to pick up a Hubbards Cave V-Series OR head 10 minutes down the road to Noon Whistle and pick up Gummy Vortex. Thinking about lining up for Coconut City? Head over to Binny's where Big Bap Baptist Quadruple is sitting on the shelf. There, I saved you money and an hour of your time. You can thank me later by sending me a Coconut City that you stood in line for

P.S. More's beers are excellent; with all this talk, I think I will head over there for lunch today!

    while Dalton put it best...

i'm confident that very few would equate the V or Gummy series to More's stuff.

I'm not a huge fan of gummy. Fresh by I will give but still, I think a substantial step below what More has been making recently. I would take double space boots over 95% of the competing haze that I've had in the last year.

And this is what I mean by it's "easy" to say there is better stuff out there.

Totally understand; nothing wrong with having a different opinion.

To someone else it is very 'easy' to say there is better stuff out there if they like Gummy beers, or any other number of beers, more than offerings from More. 'Better' and 'best' are subjective and can vary greatly based on individual.

I personally think that the quality of More’s beers are second to none in the Chicagoland area. Plenty of great options available all across the city and burbs but the consistency at More has me spending my money there as opposed to other places. $20 for a 4 pack is steep but I can justify it because I have enjoyed every single beer I have had from them which I can’t say about any other brewery including mikerphone which is another one of my favorites. Other places have lines only when they offer a BA Stout or imperial stout, More has lines for DDH IPAs. I give a ton of credit to Shaun and the crew there. I hate standing in lines but I love their beer so if I have the time to make a relase I now plan for the wait. I don’t go to these releases to make money on the secondary market I go because I really enjoy their beer. With that said I am now going to enjoy one of my cans of coconut city.

Usually it's some old school craft beer grump that names something only barely related.

"Why would you line up for this milkshake IPA? There are four packs of NvU at every Binnys!"

Definitely some truth to that. I've never tried a MoRe beer since they're in the sticks and have absurd lines and lotto sell outs. I get annoyed reading the thread on how quickly their stuff sells out. But it's also on me for not I wanting to bother with the time commitment.

I'll let the 'burb people have MoRe and then ride my bike to Corridor/Half Acre/Dovetail/Spiteful. Those 4 have nearly every style covered with fantastic quality and without the absurd lines (excludes Benthic )

I’ve had some good and some not so good beers there. I personally think they are trying to create some hype to make a name for themselves. I was in the brewery one day because I happened to be in the neighborhood and it was one of there early henna releases and I couldn’t even try it on tap because I didn’t have a ticket. I’m sorry but that’s bullshit. I can see special releases with tickets for cans or bottles, but I can’t even try it to see if its good without trolling twitter for a ticket. If your beer is so good and you can charge so much for it and have people waiting in line expand and make enough for at least the Chicagoland area.

Ask and you shall receive: they are expanding with 2 new locations in the works. But those locations (Bartlett and Huntley?) are even further out from the city that I’m not sure they even qualify as Chicagoland.

Also, I think the release you’re referring to was Henna b3: S’MoRE. I think they’ve done away with that concept since.

One small addition to my smart-ass post. I wonder how often tick chasers take a pause and grab a readily available classic. It's awesome the quality of beer that can be found at beer stores for under $12 when you're talking about a Two-Hearted, Expedition Stout, Fresh Squeezed, Edmund Fitzgerald, NvU, Zombie, etc.

Cracks me up how the ticker culture how thumbed their nose down and deemed these classics unworthy of their time unless they were aged in a barrel or adjusted to appear like OJ.

All of these were ones I was thinking of using for my snarky example. It's pretty impressive you pulled out all of them in one post

I honestly wonder if a bottle of expedition stout with a cup of coco-puffs wouldnt turn out to be a superior beer.

I mean, people would eat this up. The three hottest styles right now are pastry stouts, milkshake IPAs and hazy (juicy) IPAs.

I mean, it may not be hazy, but to many people NvU is better than almost every single hyped release out there...

I get that, but it's almost always in reply to people specifically seeking hazy ipas. It seems like they're being purposely obtuse to show off their superior taste.

but at the end of the day, don't they still need to be executed well?

there are plenty of mediocre or flat out terrible attempts at all 3 of those styles, and guess what, they stagnate on the shelves.

the market is demanding these fancy new styles, but the rising tide is most definitely not lifting all boats. people line up or truck chase the best producers, which unfortunately at this point, are producing the fewest yield per unit of hype.

it's disingenuous to simply make a blanket statement that making any stout "pastry" or "hazing" up any beer will automatically make it amazing and triple its secondary value.

give us snobs SOME credit will ya, we are a fickle yet discerning bunch
