Did you do a head to head tasting of FBS and Skillet?

Not quite head to head, but we drank them back to back. Pretty much confirmed what I was saying in that Skillet emphasized the coffee and FBS the chocolate. Both great, just depends on which of those flavors you prefer to dominate. I'm a coffee man, especially for a non-BA style stout. I literally crave it in the morning so makes sense for a breakfast style stout to me.

FBS is a little thicker though, and creamier. It's a fantastically crafted beer.

I also did a FBS and Skillet side-by-side and found that I preferred Skillet. FBS is more chocolatey and round around the edges, and it's an awesome beer that I'll continue to drink a ton of. But Skillet has that sharp coffee flavor and more pronounced sweetness (maybe from the milk and molasses sugars) that makes it a little better to me.

Y'all in NC should check out Steel String's No Quarter breakfast stout. It's my favorite beer they make, and it holds up against these ones IMO.

The other killer coffee beer to add to the great list on this thread is Pisgah Valdez. It's only 6% or so and very coffee forward (& in 12 oz cans for a good price). Great everyday drinker with great local Black Mountain roasted coffee from Dynamite. Haven't seen a recent batch but keep an eye out.

I also love Counter Culture coffee!

Bestway had 64oz growler fills of Valdez for $9.99 over the weekend. Dunno if they still have a keg or not, but worth checking out if you're in the area.

I'm curious about No Quarter. Very interested in trying it, but I wasn't a big fan of their French Toast Stout. Grant it, it wasn't brewed with coffee.

Yeah, I didn't love Thick French Toast either, the flavors in it just didn't work. But I'd definitely recommend No Quarter if you love coffee and want something different from FBS.

Bolo is the best coconut beer I've ever had. Doesn't taste like sun tan lotion. Soooo good. Just copped a couple 4 packs.

I've had it on draft and it was okay. If it's better than the death by coconut from ob recently then I'm hunting some down.

Haven't had DBC yet (and really want to), but I will say that Bolo is a damn fine beer and better in a can than when I had it on draft. They've got all these ones they're canning really dialed-in and awesome.

I've had both, and prefer DBC by a large margin. But everyone is different.

Bolo is good. Plenty of coconut. Like NoDa Coco Loco a lot for a coconut and chocolate beer. Want to find Death by Coconut and taste them side by side. Bolo is a brown without cocoa nibs so quite different

Huge delivery to the Triangle shops yesterday. A lot more than I was anticipating. Happy to get some this time around.

Yeah I had batch 2 DBC and it was hugely disappointing to me. The coconut was severely lacking. Bolo had it beat by leaps and bounds. So either taste buds or can variation but my preference is Bolo.
