I don't think craft breweries need commercials their products sell themselves

Not a knock on craft beer at all, but it's tough because I think by default a lot of craft beer drinkers are not loyal. They want to try a bit of everything and don't just stick to one brewery.

People that drink Miller, drink Miller

People that drink Dogfish Head, probably drink Firestone Walker, Stone, Deschutes, Russian River, Founders, Lagunitas, Sierra Nevada, Three Floyds, Tighthead, Victory, Ballast Point, Surly, Bell's, Southern Tier, New Glarus, Great Lakes, Pipeworks, etc......

I believe it was a Macatawa Bank commercial featuring New Holland. Kinda like a small business lending, making dreams happen kinda thing. Very cool too see one of my favorite Michigan breweries on TV nonetheless. This might not be the one you are referring to but it's the only craft related commercial I've ever seen on a major network

I don't watch commercials, in fact, I avoid them energetically.

commercials are the devil. You know corporate advertising has infected you when you're driving really fast down the highway in a Ford F-250, sucking down a bucket of McCheeseburgers, and jamming out to Nickleback

Because beers, belching, and boobies appeal to a certain population. I think @Vukusich would agree, cleavage generates "likes". :sunglasses: I was quite surprised by that online ad, especially since Troegs is borderline based in a generally conservative part of the state and we've never seen them as a brewery that really "pushes the envelope".

I've seen plenty of New Belgium commercials, and obviously Sam Adams. In general though, craft beer doesn't need TV commercials and they would probably not be financially smart.

I like the idea that craft beer doesn't advertise the way the other guys do. I like the idea that someone "turned you on" to craft by sharing beer with you or that you discovered it yourself while in the beer aisle and thinking "I wonder what these are?" I also like the idea that when you come to the internet to see what this craft beer stuff is that you find "us."

    "you're with us now."

As much as I disliked that commercial - I felt it invoked unfavorable stereotypes - they have done that plenty of times before. I also think that the approipriate response is not to trade insults but to simply make some beer. It is perfect that the brewers who took offense didn't go cry baby whining allover the tv . The brewers who will brew that pumpkin peach ale will be better for it and the people who buy it will be deliberately not giving any money to ab in bev.

Lagunita's is a constant sponsor of This American Life ("Keep the 'pub' in public radio"). To me, that's pretty effective demographic targeting, and presumably comes at only a fraction of the cost of a traditional national campaign.

On the whole, I believe a person inclined to drink craft beer is disinclined to watch tv for long periods of time or listen to traditional radio, at least, moreso than the general population. Craft brewers, in my opinion, are doing a good job at putting themselves in those media channels we do tend to frequent.

Leave the advertising to the beer makers who make a low quality product and need half naked girls and multi million dollar ad campaigns to sell their stuff, let craft brewers keep making products that sell themselves. just my opinion.

This is pretty hilarious if you've seen bud's attack on craft commercial.

Sam Adams used to have those ads with a guy in an old timey outfit saying the catch phrase "Sam Adams, always a good decision!"

Those ads were far more entertaining and probably more effective than the more boasty ads they run now. Hell, those were on when I first started drinking beer and the first beer I tried then was SABL, so the ads certainly worked on me.
