London has been covered, very nicely, and could also serve as a template for further definitive city guides.
Whilst browsing I came across this gem, reproduced in full from Phil Hodgson's most excellent Newcastle Real Ale Listings site. http://www.newcastle-real-ale.co.uk

That's a hell of a pub crawl round York! There's places on there I've never heard of; perhaps I should get out more. As a resident I can't think of anything that would improve the list - even the latest beer bar is featured (the Hop).

As for other places, I reckon every large city ought to have one eventually. Though some places are clearly more deserving than others, even locations that punch below their weight ought to have recommendations for potential visitors/inhabitants....

    How about Edinburgh?

At the moment there are a lot of craft beer inspired bars opening in Manchester and a lot of old favourite pubs closing so there is probably to much of a fluid situation to make a definitive Manc guide.

Stockport, long a good destination for both traditional and real ale pubs is positively vibrant due to the plethora
    of cheshire based passionate microbreweries

and Altrincham has 3 Belgian type cafes packed with all sorts of world beers
as well as Dunham Massey's brewtap dispensing a perfect replica of Boddies when it was a world class hoppy bitter

Yeah I was just joking, best pub crawl ever due to how you can pretty much fall from one into the other. And yeah I heard about that too, it sucks. On the bright side there should be a Waen place too.

The Waen place has fallen through for now, take a look at their twitter.

Chapter Arts is good for German bottles all year round plus they have a German festival often twice a year, plus other themes (West country, Scotland etc) and a good selection of cask all year round.

Though I've not been for five years
My dad is a regular visitor to Cornwall, once a good ale desert, now has great places popping up all the time.

In Falmouth The Seven Star is a little gem of a pub & nearby Helston
has the original brew pub, The Blue Anchor which has had beer brewed on the site for 600 years

Superb steal there Aye! Just goes to show how much York has to offer a beer lover (and I'm pleased to say I recognised most of them even if I haven't visited all of them).

The only obvious omission was the King's Arms, but perhaps Sam Smiths doesn't count as proper beer
