A beer a week? Why bother? As for medical studies, they're so self contradictory and reverse themselves so much, I really don't pay much attention to them.

Doctors are my friends, and they've told me to not drink so much, and I've told some of them since we were kids that they were too serious all of the time. They made most likely to succeed and I was most friendly..true story. Be careful and no secrets exist about addiction. If you happen to be one able to operate in moderation, count your blessings.

That's exactly my problem! I'm addicted to buying more than drinking! I only drink about 4-5 beers per week but will usually get or trade more than each week. So the collection keeps growing!

I drink maybe 6 beers a week. Maybe more if I have days off.
Tho usually bombers or 16 ounce cans.

Yes, I feel exactly like this. Unfortunately, I also feel this way about cigarettes, Ben & Jerry's, online pornography and codeine, pretty much from the time I wake up each afternoon to when I pass out on the sofa after dinner. It's the cumulative effects that I expect will negatively impact my health, productivity and marriage.

Due to gout I now try to limit myself to one a night, 3-4 nights a week. Working against me are high ABV and/or bombers which can make one beer have the alcohol of 2-6 typical 12 oz 4.2% beers. Having seen the habits of alcoholics, I make sure that every time I have a beer, I post it on WBAYDN or NBS, and make sure I leave the empty bottle sitting out for a while so it is clear to my family I'm open about it. As soon as you are sneaky about your drinking, you need to consider that you may have an issue. As far as health benefits, I doubt one-a-day would be an issue for most folks. It's the six/twelve pack every night folks that should worry.

    This was good. Thank you.

Truly there's nothing like chain smoking your way through a pint of Ben and Jerry's Redtube Velvet Cough Syrup Stout Swirl at 11 am.

Just curious, but with the small amount you drink, why the need to make everyone aware in that way?

After flirting with alcoholism in college, I drank less each year for the next 35 years until I went months without a drink. Then I got into craft and and started drinking way more than before, though still only 3-4 beers a week. Given my family history, I suppose my family is concerned that after going years without much drinking, craft is suddenly a hobby. I just want to be up front about it, so they don't have to worry that they're only seeing the tip of the iceberg.

Makes total sense, and hopefully my question didn't come across as rude or anything. Glad you get to enjoy the delicious world of craft brews. Cheers!

I'm going to die from something. Might as well be beer.

Make it 'while having unprotected sex in a stolen Lamborghini' and I'm in.

There was a study back in the day that showed people who drink a liter of beer a day (~2 or 3 beers) have higher levels of certain B vitamins in their blood stream and lower levels of a marker of heart disease and Alzheimers.

Other studies have shown regular moderate-low alcohol consumption is good for lowering heart disease risk.

40 years with no beer is the mathematical equivalent of the Israelites wandering the desert! :grimacing: All I can say is, "Welcome back!"

My beer intake fluctuates from week to week, depending on what I'm doing. I generally drink less at home alone than out with others. Sometimes I go several days without a beer, and rarely have more than one a day at home (usually NBS is the exception).
My biggest concern is if I should find myself stretching social drinking so that the definition fits when I'm actually drinking essentially alone, but allowing the illusion of social activity to justify binge drinking. For that reason, I deliberately limit my outings.
