I am suffering it right now, as a matter of fact, and will be switching to non hoppy beers for a couple weeks soon as I finish this IPA backlog.

No one thinks it's a real thing until LTS happens to them.

I know I've probably reached this 'threshold' years ago - but Southern Tier's Unearthly - the first incarnation- back when it was 11%abv - really used to whack my tastebuds.

Yeah, this came to mind for me too, though I haven't had it for awhile.
Hi-Res as well.. I think Resin hits the mark perfectly and Hi-Res just turns it to 11 (a bit too much for me)

Funny you say that. I used to drink a lot of Unearthly and it was when drinking a fresh bottle some years back and I couldn't taste any bitter that I realized for the first time that I had LTS. It kinda creeps up on you. Have had it at least 6 more times since then.

It was the family business, and it was not doing well as that line of products was getting competition from overseas. Then Omar had an idea as to what to do in the space that was unused.

    Palate Wrecker.

The most appropriately named beer I've had to date.

Never tried Arctic Panzer Wolf but FFF - Dreadnaught is the first that comes to mind. Had it on tap and it was like grapefruit flavored aspirin.

Thanks! I thought that was the case. No mystery how that beer got its name! IIRC, the can even had a reference to the factory on the label. Sure do miss Surly since we moved out West.....

10-ish years ago it was SN Torpedo. Knocked me on my ass. Didn't know a beer could be that bitter and piney. Years later the IPA scene has obviously changed dramatically, as has my palette, but I vividly remember a similar ass-knocking experience the one time I got to drink Short's Huma Lupa Licious a few years ago on a trip to Grand Rapids.

Can’t believe it took that long. This is my vote also.

Yeah, I agree with the Waldo's. The original, before the amping up of the abv was superb. Dammit, don't mess with an awesome brew like that!!

Evil Twin Molotov Cocktail was the first time I saw a beer listed as a "Triple IPA" at a bar. I wouldn't say it was one-dimensional but certainly one of the biggest punch-you-in-the-face-with-hops beer in my memory.

Actually I raised this topic because I was thinking about the FFF selection at a bottle shop and how I passed on Artic Panzer Wolf due to my perception of it being an over the top experience last time I had it but scooped up just about everything else from them.

I know everyone has a different palate so I was wondering what IPAs other BAs found to be very aggressive. Just a discussion topic... not necessarily seeking or not seeking these brews.

Green Flash West Coast IPA is the epitome of one-dimensional bitter pine-bomb. I picked up a few Deschutes Pine Drop bottles at their tasting room in Roanoke and it was a pretty bitter pine-bomb as well, but with some redeeming complexity.

I think West Coast IPAs tend to be pretty aggressive. Sierra Nevada Torpedo, Lagunitas Maximus, etc.

Yep, Stone used to use the tagline for Ruination, I'm Bitter and I Like It. Oh how I want Ruination v1.0 again.

I actually was going to say Stone as well, but I think I saw recently that they changed some recipes.

8-10 years ago, BA was full of members seeking the most bitter IPAs available and seemingly enjoining them.
