I recently spent about a month researching saisons before brewing one. I looked at fermentation temps, hop additions and so on and came up with a recipe with some Asian influence adding roasted carrots and lemongrass. Then, while eating lunch (a bowl of ramen right before brewing) I though if anyone has added ramen noodles to a beer and yes, there have been several so at last minute I added them directly to the mash – skipped adding the chicken flavor packet of course. No weird flavors but it is giving the beer a really nice mouthfeel that I haven't had in any of my saisons.

Long story short, what is the most bizarre mash addition you have done?

    Cheers

A friend from the homebrew club decided to make a real "breakfast" beer by adding a good whack of Shreddies and Malted Wheaties breakfast cereals in the mash. And lactose, obviously, because you wouldn't have cereal without milk.

It was... okay, I guess? In a "not bad for a novelty brew but you probably wouldn't make it regularly" sort of way.

Unless there is something wrong with the link, it looks like you are the only one who rated it. Are you also the only one who bought it? Ha!

It stayed on tap for a loooong time before it disappeared from the beer menu. Maybe I was the only one who ordered it. And maybe they won't try brewing it again.

I used the leftover whey from some goat cheese I made to the mash for a spelt saison. Definitely had a very thick mouthfeel for finishing so low. The cold break looked like egg drop soup

Some guy mashed a whole apple pie a few years back IIRC.

I wish those threads still existed, there were some truly awesome/insane posts

Some of craziest threads were on the forum before the big reset:

    120 Minute IPA Clone
    Cheap Canadian Extract
    Haunted Beer
"I Drank a Vial of Yeast"

Haunted beer? I don't remember that one or the Canadian one.

It's been so long that my memory is fuzzy, but as I recall...

Haunted Beer: Someone wanted ideas for a "haunted beer" recipe for Halloween. Orphans were in the grain bill. While nobody said anything about the orphans, one BA was (pretending to be) shocked to see a particular hop variety being used.

Canadian Extract: A BA from Canada who used to post some fairly off the wall questions wanted to know why his wort was not attenuating. IIRC, he rejected suggestions about temperature, yeast viability, etc., and stubbornly claimed that the malt extract must be defective. Hilarity ensued.

Haunted beer was before my time, but I remember several threads that were similar to the Canadian one.

Ha, I forgot about the 120 minute clone. That one was awesome, really wish that the Internet Archive had scraped those threads.

Jonny is a true legend. It's a shame (for us) he got away from brewing. He and HB42 are two guys I really wish were still on the forum.
