I'm sure some of you have more experience shipping this kind of volume than I do. What is the best, most efficient way to ship 24 12oz bottles?

I usually fill the case with peanuts and seal it and then toss it in a garbage bag (just in case one breaks) and then toss it in another box (double box method). I've done this a few times and haven't had any issues. I know others have wrapped each bottle individually but that takes too much time :grinning:

I typically get a box with about 4 inches more clearance on all sides than the case. I add an extra sheet of cardboard to the bottom of the shipping box, add 2-3 inches of peanuts then set a another slightly larger than case size box on top. I put one layer of small bubble wrap around every bottle. then place them in the inside box and fill in between and on top of bottles with more peanuts or paper/fill. Then close the interior box and fill dead space with more peanuts/crumpled paper, seal and ship.

I would like to hear more thoughts from other folks, too.

Wrap each bottle individually with bubble wrap at least 1 full time and put it back into the 6pk. You don't need tape. You should be able to pick up the 6pk by any individual bottle without any slipping.

Preference would be to have a non-beer logo box that is larger than the case box. Layer the bottom enough. Put in the 6pks. Layer the outside of the box with some additional cardboard or whatever, then, at a minimum, put some cardboard in between the 6pks and make sure everything is tight. Cushion the top of the box, close it up and slap on a label.

With a box this heavy, it is best to only have one layer of beer. If the box isn't shaped in your favor (16x16x16, for example), pull some bottles out individually from a 6pk and just fit them into the open areas of the box like you would do in a normal scenario.

If this isn't clear, let me know. Through shipping multiple cases, I've found this to be the best method.

Yes, and this is what I've done in the past. Kind of a headache...

For what it's worth, here has been my method of shipping larger quantities of 12oz botles:

    Materials:
    • 22oz bottle case boxes, with dividers - one for every 12 bottles
    • Bubble wrap - good sheets plus junky/taped-up pieces to use as filler
    • 12" cube boxes - one for every 12 bottles
    • newspaper, bubble wrap, or other bulk pack material
    Process:
    1. Place a layer of heavy bubble wrap on the bottom of each case box
    2. Place the divider back into the case box
    3. Wrap each bottle in one layer wrapping of bubble wrap and slide into the divider slots
    4. Fill rest of case box with the junky bubble wrap or other bulk pack material
    5. Tape up box, place into 12" cube box
    6. Add newspaper/peanuts/etc to fill the extra space in the box
    7. Repeat as necessary
I suppose I was hoping to have somebody tell me there's an easier way.

If you have enough of them, you could instead use the cardboard inserts that come in wine/bomber cases, which you put next to the bottles inside the 6pks. Preventing any give and contact between the bottles is the goal. I honestly think that using the bubble wrap is just as easy though. No tape, you just shove the bottles in the 6pk.

I think your method is right about what the majority of us are using.

How big of a box do you use?

So i buy a case of beer. I open it and fill it with peanuts without taking anything out (ie 4 or 6 packs). Make sure to put a lot of peanuts so its night and tight. After that i find whatever box i have laying around. I would venture to guess any box that is 1 inch larger on each side is fine. I put a base of peanuts in, drop the case (inside a garbage bag just in case one leaks/breaks) in and fill the sides and top with peanuts and then send it off.

Personally if packing 12 bottles is a pain in the ass then i would sooner not do it which is why i switched to this method.

ideal is using 12oz shipper, but when you don't have one handy, i wrap each bottle. i'm shipping a case of BCBS right now (well when the power comes back on in my house and i can go home to finish packing it up) and i'm doing 12 bottles per box. to me, it isn't worth the risk of losing a full case of beer by putting it all in a single box and not wrapping each bottle. you don't have to go nuts, just wrap the bottle, make sure that bottles are far enough apart that they won't bump into each other and can't move. pack it like any other trade.

Agreed, a case of BCBS is very different then a case of ZD or Hopslam
