Hi BC BAs, I'm visiting Malmo Sweden and just paid $55 for a bomber of Southern Tier Mocha which I shared, and during the same session I passed on a $150 bottle of Westy XII. On the same night I paid $20 for a shot of Sam Adams Utopia (once for '07 and again for '09). Swedes stop tempting me! Beat that!
Not to burst your bubble, but why pay that amount of money for beers you can get either in Canada or across the border for $11.00, $12.99 respectively, and a bottle of Utopia will set you back $130.00. There's boasting and then just inane boasting I, personally, would be embarassed to admit I spent that much on quite readily available beers.
Akkurat is insane! If you are there ask to see the cellars and private party rooms. As to Torontoblue's comments it is crazy when in the Scandinavian countries there is crazy old and cool stuff available. Sometimes it is the thrill of seeing it for the first time and sometimes the only time that causes one to open a wallet. The Westy 12 pricing is very out to lunch though.
It's not a boast torontoblue, it's an expression of amazement that they could charge that much! My point is that these must be the most expensive beer prices in the world, regardless of whether or not I paid it. I say beat that as a challenge to find higher prices anywhere.
Really? Where can you get a Westy XII for $12.99? Let me know...I want to go there. [Not being a smartass...want a bargain. I paid $22 for one recently]. I agree on the Utopias...I just "won" the rights to one for that price.
Australia is up there for prices too. Sweden's prices are just tax heavy aren't they? Australia is just pure expensive.
A cure for ever thinking Canadian beer is expensive is a trip to Australia or Sweden. $17 CAD pint of IIPA at Murrays, ouch!
Six packs of Westy XII could be had quite easily for more than a week at $65/70 in Vancouver, so he's actually low on that $12.99 price point... just saying
Yeah...$12.99 seems to be a retail price point (assuming you could buy them individually, which you couldn't in most places...the six packs were it here in Ontario). A barkeep has to make a profit. Assuming the 50% markup, that would put it at $20 in a pub/bar.
