I've done some bottle shares that have blown my mind, but I really do prefer a fresh palate and sobriety to enjoy something I'm really excited about. If you can truly enjoy an insane lineup, I salute you.

I;ve been to some pretty epic tastings - multiple year Dark Lord, Pliny, Cantillon, and plenty of other rare and out-of distro beers. Of course, I don't recall everything tasted, since A) they were mostly a couple years plus ago, and B) there were so many epic beers opened.

I've been to the Great Taste of the Midwest for a few years now, and that's a place where you can get the like of Barrel Aged Abraxas (the best beer I've ever had) - the problem is that it doesn't even take an hour for your taste buds to start taking a beating and you lose your ability to distinguish any kind of subtleties. I wouldn't turn down a seat at one of these tastings, but it certainly is my preference to stretch out quality beverage over many sittings.

A tap takeover/battle of the breweries in Iowa city while I was there on business... Surly vs Toppling Goliath!

Each brewery brought about 4-5 beers including pseudo sue, assassin and darkness. I'd had them all before, but not all at once before. Needless to say, it was an awesome time.

I went to the 312 block party and tried ~8 different BCBS variants. That was a big one for me.

Pretty much every Darkness Day ends up looking something like this at our table:

That was a partial shot of the pile. Quite a bit was missing, like the 6-year Old Guardian vertical, BB4D, a some older Cantillons, 2009 Vortex II, 2010 Sexual Chocolate, Woodcut #3, Parabola, Assassin, several TG growlers, or the growler of 2008 BCBS.

A couple of years ago, a group of friends and I shared a few that I had tucked away. We were each able to enjoy a 3oz sample of the following:

•Bottles of Thomas Hardy Ale from 1988, 89, and 92
•A 1993 bottle of Gales prize Old Ale
•A 1990 bottle of Sierra Nevada Bigfoot
•A 1969 (approx) bottle of Ballantine India Pale
•A 1946/66 bottle of Ballantine Burton Ale

Several were certainly 'faded' somewhat (some less than others), one (the '92 Hardy's) was markedly better than it was when first purchased, and none of them were remotely undrinkable (far from it).
Two of them --the Bally Burton and the '93 Gale's-- were quite surprising and revelatory (the Gales's for it's utter complexity, and the Bally Burton for it's remarkable preservation, appearance, and richness considering it's age).
The Bigfoot had also mellowed into something really special...a testament, I think, to just how well made SN brews are.
