I know Devil Dancer is dry hopped with 10 different varieties over the period of 26 days.
Anyone know of a beer with more than 10?

Anyone know of a single person that could discern the particular, essential characteristics imparted by each of the 10(+) hops in any beer?

No way, might be hard to pick out just one. HT uses a 5 hop blend and I drink a lot of IPA's, I couldn't tell you one that was in it without guessing. The best you can say with such a huge mix of Hops is that it's either really great, pretty good, or not.

The way beers generally get that many hop varieties is from recipe modifications over a long period. For example, you start with Centennial and Cascade, then you decide you need some Simcoe, as well as amarillo perhaps, and eventually the beer ends up with ton of different hop varieties. The other way it can happen is if the brewer is blending hops to attain a specific ratio of essential hop oils (flavor/aroma compounds). This is done to create a hop character that none of the individual hops necessarily even posses. Either way, it is very challenging, but the rewards can be incredible if it is done correctly.

Bell's batch 10000 was said to have a blend of 60 hop varieties. Called a kitchen sink beer, you know what that means if you homebrew.

I came to mention Batch 9000, which I thought I remember being brewed with 100 hops and 100 malts.

In any case, yeah, the Bell's anniversary batches win this hands down.

Yeah, this was definitely a malty stout sort of beer, not much in the way of hops. The malt bill was just as dazzling. Barley, wheat, rye, spelt, oats, and some grain I've never heard of called quinoa, which is apparently similar to tumbleweed.

I've done that. Cleaned out my home brewing bins and used up my excess bags of hops, I think it was six different hops, combination of English and American hops. The beer itself was a crystal malt 60L on a Two-Row base and it was simply awful. Filled 29 bottles and dumped every one of them.

I believe Mitch Steele from Stone Brewing said 11 (at the NHC seminars he gave this year) to be exact and he also said the point to this strategy is to create a complex product and be able to substitute hop varieties in the face of shortages. So the 11 used now are subject to change!

There were 19 different hops used in the recent "Heroes 19" Red Ale, made by Arizona breweries for the Granite Hot Shout crew.
