I know it's just semantics, but I have a problem calling any BA program "important." World hunger, poverty, disease, human rights ect are important. Beer is fun. If any of these breweries listed stopped making BA beers I'd just shrug and buy one from a different brewery instead.

I have to go with the "Too many" crowd. The choices of barrel and non-barrel aged stouts is too long with too many great choices. I will say that I have been cellaring them for years and as the choices go up the less I enjoy Goose Island. It is still a great stout but.......

Just like those awful Avery shelf turds. Especially tweak.

Well, for what it's worth, Firestone Walker has the largest barrel aging program in the country (or so I hear). They're not all devoted to stouts but that still seems pretty important to me.

I just had their stout and wee heavy. I don't know why they don't get more love, both were great.

I voted for Jackie O's because a few months ago I finally broke down and drove up there a for a visit. I was very impressed with not only the quality but variety of BA stouts they had available on tap and in bottles. Although I haven't been lucky enough to try more than 1 or 2 BA stouts from most of the breweries on that list

    They are all important.
GI was the first BA Stout I've had, it was, and still is terrific. Central Waters, Founders, Epic are all wonderful. How could I have forgot# Revolutions Deep Woods series. I could go on an on, but if it's Barrel Aged, it's probably worth drinking

I dont understand why the last two choices are a bunch of breweries lumped together ... I'd shout out Central Waters and Revolution Brewing both of whom are doing a fantastic job with their respective barrel programs.

The most important probably has to be GI at least historically ...

And then based on your poll questions the king of the barrel aged stouts has to be the one thats owned by the king of beers!

To actually use a metric rather than "it tastes good to me," if one looks to the amount of BeerAdvocate talk (either positive or negative), then the collective Bourbon County beers are clearly the most "important" here.

I don’t think you’re showing enough respect to FW, Alesmith (lumped into one category)....and no love for The Bruery (thin thin stout huh??)

Beer gave us civilization! Hard to get more “important” than that!

Thousands of years later, we are still trying to perfect it....just think what will happen when we do!

Wow - so many good ones, many of which are not on the list. I picked Prairie because they make three of my top 10 BA beers; Pirate BOMB, Pirate Noir, and BA BOMB. I like GI/BCBS, Founders, Surly, Central Waters, and hear really good things about Toppling Goliath.

I'm big fan of Black Tuesday, but thin body in recent years seems fair. Are you saying you find it to be a full body stout?

This would be a more interesting discussion if we discussed Best Barrel Program (entirely), not just one style. Who does it the best among many styles of beer?! I'd say maybe Firestone.

Why are Evil Twin and Mikeller listed together? They're completely different brewery outfits, regardless of the brotherly connection.

If anything, Evil Twin should be listed here with Westbrook, which oversees much of their barrel aging. (Not to mention that Westbrook probably deserves to be here in their own right.)
