No way Nelson applies unless it's a GF version.

KBS seems to be polarizing year to year.

Anything from Great Lakes. Elliot Ness is sometimes great sometimes like playdo. Seems all of their beers are up and down.

Polarizing , yes, which I definitely don't get, maybe price, maybe scarcity, a pain in the ass to get depending on where you live, but it is the model of consistency.

recently, Gumball head has had vastly different flavor profiles, in both bottles and draft. When my non-hop head/ beer nerd dad notices a difference without me saying anything, i think there is something wrong

@LordCrabapple , do you think Orval would be a good answer to the OP's question?

A few of the local brews that I enjoy seem to be slightly different every time. I don't know if they're trying to tweak recipes or if their not just that great at consistency. Either way, they're not making bad beers, just different.

Zombie Dust. Sometimes it's good other times it's awesome. On tap is always better than the bottle in my opinion.

The clarity of beer changes a lot based on; how long it has been in a bottle/keg. The longer it ages the clearer it will become typically. Also temperature. Beer will often get cloudier the colder it is due to chill haze. Flavor differences could be because of slight variances in temperature from one batch to another. Even a slight change in ferm temp will affect the flavor. It is difficult to always ferment at the exact same temp as most regions of the US have major temperature shifts throughout the year. Also as commercial breweries harvest and reuse their yeast, yeast changes from generation to generation, changing slightly every batch, sometimes for the better and some times for the worse. Brewers know this and try to adjust accordingly. Hops also vary and change from year to year depending on conditions like weather/temp. Also the same hop grown in two different areas on the country will have different flavors reflecting the terroir of the growing region. Alpha Acid concentrations in hops also vary from year to year and by grower. So if a brewery has to source their hops from different places from year to year, the beer itself will also change slightly from year to year. Bottom line is that craft beer is not an exact science, it can't be. Beer is alive and it changes. If you plan on being a true beer advocate then you need to educate yourself and get used to these facts. If you can't live with variances in the beers you enjoy than make your own. Or drink macro-lagers. I guarantee they will taste the same every time.

In the past, most stuff from Weyerbacher - but they're dialing it in now. ( ) I'm going to pass on the Hop Slam argument.

Oberon. Never been a huge fan of this beer but usually buy a bottle or 2 every spring. This years Oberon smells like shit and is an absolute drainpour

Bell's Hopslam: Especially the difference between on tap and bottles. I know this always makes a difference but on tap Hopslam is like heaven. In a bottle, even very fresh, it is not even in my top 15 fav IPAs.
