Stone IRS was my first big, awesome, stout experience 5-6 years ago. Thick and full flavored... Recently had a bottle from 2012 that was as thin as a Guinness and no where near as bold as I remember it being. Anyone else have similar experiences with other beers from year to year?

Whatever the best beer was last year. This year's version tastes off

Pumking tasted different this year. I can't put my finger on it but I just remember it being better and less fake tasting.

Now that I think about it, I felt the same way. It seemed more artificial and less pumpkin pie in a bottle.

Not saying that there isn't variation. But I do think it's definitely something people "identify" too often.

I bought a case of FBS this year. First time I've ever bought a case of anything. And I can't believe the "difference" between bottles I've had from the case. Clearly no difference. All to do with countless other factors. Point is I'm noticing this with beers in the same batch. If you buy a couple of something last year and a couple more this year. Who's to say it's not another factor at play.

I agree when it comes to subtle differences. Especially with FBS, I haven't had this years yet but I usually try to load up on it when I can and for the past 5 years or so it's been one of the most consistent beers I've ever had. FBS is easily my favorite non-BA stout that isn't prairie bomb haha

Hopslam and flower power are the two that come to my mind.

crops vary year to year, your taste buds change, your emotional state changes, and if they start producing more then the quality tends to go down.
