I can honestly say I have a strong, emotional connection to beer but I'm not sure who to thank for it. Probably a woman, no, more than probably.

I think Ice house was probably the first beer I ever had. I actually had one not too long ago and it wasn't bad.

This is a cool thread. Leinies original was and still is my old man's brand. I'll always think of him when I see one.

This thread should prove to be quite interesting and full of great tales.

Mine is Jai Alai for the simple fact that I could only get it once a year when we went on vacation to Florida. Their distro to PA was spotty at best and the first day at the house or condo we were staying at I would be at the local Publix or liquor store on the hunt for a couple of sixers! NOW we moved down here to Florida a few months ago and the beer scene down here is BLOWING UP and Jai Alai is just the beginning for me. I always pick up a sixer when I can find it fresh.

Really the only ones there's any emotional connection with are those from the high school and college days. Budweiser "nips" are probably No 1 because way back in the late 80s it was about $12 or $13 a case, which was 6 8 packs. After hs football games on Friday or Saturday night, five or six of us would split a case and drink in the parking lot of the football field or parking lot of a factory. In college a buddy and I would split a case of MGD cans and watch Monday Night Football every week, usually with a little wager on the game. After football season, about 4 or 5 of us would drink out in the woods or under a train tressel and we'd have Crazy Horse (now Crazy Stallion) or Old Milwaukee 40s. For $5 and some change you could get 3 40s, which left you with a pretty good buzz. As far as craft beers, no real emotional connection, except maybe with Dogfish and Ommegang because that's what my brother usually got and he pretty much got me away from Crazy Horse and into craft beers.

Russian River Damnation. Exquisite beer that is savored at special moments around a campfire in the back yard, generally with good company

3F Blot Out the Sun. It was the first 3F beer I ever had, and it blew the doors off my perception of what beer could be.

Dead Guy Ale, too, for different reasons. That was always our beer pong beer in my Navy days.

Has to be Widmer Brothers Hefeweizen. That was my gateway craft beer. And when funds got tight, a 18 pack of rolling rock for 12.99. I still love rolling rock...

Carton Boat- the beer that peaked my interest into hops
Magic Hat #9- possibly my first craft beer
Porkslap- another possible first craft. Drank it alot at first being into craft. (Not sure on exact #1)
Dogfish Head 60 Minute- first ipa.
Guinness- my father's beer of choice
Keystone Light- high school party beer. Which i still think tastes good.

I miss the simpler times. The first exploration of craft, the first taste of an ipa which left me dumbfounded. Drinking craft before i knew what craft was specifically. That's why i cant remember my first. It was either #9, Boat or 60 minute. If not Boston Lager which i despised at first sip. I was a PBR and Newcastle guy.

I got very emotional once drinking Left Coast Asylum. Shed a tear, mostly because it tasted like shit and I wasted 6 bucks for it on tap in Vegas.

On the flip side Fat Tire was my gateway beer to craft and every time I have it I get all nostalgic and what not.

    Cheers
