That is true. My main problem with JP is I just really haven't enjoyed a lot of their beers. I probably wouldn't feel this way if they tasted better to me.

I cannot give you a hard time for personal taste, if you don't like it, its never worth the price. I just like to make mention of the process for perspective when this conversation comes up.

    Cheers!

This feels like the kinda thread that will get a long response from Sam Calagione at some point....

Like you said, to each his own, but I have to wholeheartedly disagree with you on both fronts. The $8-10 for a bomber isn't outrageous, and any similar restaurant/cafe in town is charging the same prices or higher.

OK, you one upped me on that one. I'm not so pissd off at the pricing of their beers as much as I am Ruination...right around $16.99 - $18.99 on the East Coast and the chance of scoring a fresh one is a crap shoot. Done rolling the dice on expensive old stuff. Date the bottles. Dated cases are great, especially in PA, but since the laws set from the times of John Adams have been lifted and we can buy singles and sixers, I revert to my original beef...date the bottles.

Ruination, and all other Stone beers, are dated (on the bottle). Or am I not following what you are trying to say.

I haven't seen that date because I have passed them up for SO long because of it. I appreciate the education.

All of their 6 packs and regular line up bottles have best-by dates on the bottle, etched so that shady store owners can't rub them off. It's not a bottled on date, but Ruination is dated for 3 months after it was bottled so it's fairly simple to figure out.

Gotcha. Laser etched dates now, look at the necks. Great stuff when fresh!

Three months out is reasonable, there's a lot that date them out six months. Just give me the bottle on date and I'll be the judge...drives me crazy.

I totally agree. Also if you do find a place it is out of date they have a page set up where you can report it:
    http://www.stonebrew.com/freshbeer/
I think that's the reason they use the best-by date, it gives them a firm cut off where the beer should be pulled instead of letting a store owner or distributor decide how old is too old.

i'm with you...if you don't like the taste, it's one thing but for me they make some of the most unique and delicious beers out there, and they put a lot of work into their beers

i can't get their stuff here anymore and whenever i get a chance to pick some up when i'm on vacation somewhere i never hesitate.

DFH pretty much comes up in my mind first and foremost as one of the most overpriced breweries.

Lost Abbey is so high, I won't even mess with their shit, as the ones I've had were not worth it.

Evil Twin is pretty friggin proud of their stuff too, and for no good reason, IMO.

I understand the huge costs in brewing, but man.. Maybe figure out how some places like Sierra Nevada are doing it on the cheap, while still making good beer, and rip a page from their playbook.

I wasn't too pleased when Green Flash West Coast IPA went to 4 pks. and the price only dropped $1. Oaked Arrogant Bastard at $20.99 a six [in NY].

Not hard to figure out, Sierra Nevada does it on volume that few other craft breweries are anywhere close to.
