These are the exact ones that come to mind. I would put ballast point on the list for Virginia, as their stuff is 2x the cost here than in California.

Dogfish head, drives me crazy that Palo Santo Marron is about 20 bucks a pack wherever I go. Not that its overpriced per se, I'm just poor.

Dogfish Head is pretty bad too, actually, yeah. I know they have a huge variety with lots of good offerings, but, man, a lot of their stuff is so expensive that I'll never try it. Their bombers of "weird stuff" anyway. Their normal 6-pk offerings are pretty decently priced, though.

Bombers are pretty much the only way I buy beer. I'd hate to see Stone discontinue them, but then, I rarely buy Stone beer any more, anyway, so...

There appear to be a number of factors--we appear to have the most expensive beer, but gas prices are middle of the pack--nowhere near the top (California and Chicago area, on the other hand...). Geography also seems to play a relatively minor role, but, perhaps, combined with the cost of living, distributors feel they can ramp up prices. Certainly the case locally--the pricier, more exclusive areas tend to have more expensive stores (and not necessarily good selection even). But let's not ignore the arcane distribution laws in this state and the prudish attitude toward non-whiskey alcohol at state level. We may have got rid of most Blue Laws, but their spirit remains. Case in point--I keep pointing out how shocked I was to find beer prices $1-2 lower per container (including 4- and 6-packs) in Hartford, compared to Boston area. If this were merely cost of living issue, that would carry over to 12-packs and cases, but it does not--Boston is actually cheaper on those! So things may be a bit more complicated. And neither CoL or geography explains low prices on beer across California--but taxes do. CA wine tax is the lowest in the country, as an explicit encouragement to the industry--I don't have the exact figures, but taxes on beer appear to have ridden the wine coattails in the state.

Same goes for Heineken. NE US supply comes from same Dominican Republic brewery that puts out El Presidente!

$20-30 a bottle for Eclipse is ridiculous, but I still bought the max amount during their pre-sale. :slight_frown:

When I first saw DFH 90 min. for $12 a 4 pack, I almost flipped! But after having most of their brews, the quality and taste are definitely worth it. I've had a couple of bottles of the Bruery elixir's and they are good but $20+? Ah yes, the Italian beers in their weird and stylish labels. It seems that the beer inside can never live up to the label hype or their price too!

I see this thread is still chugging along with the misconception that "overpriced" = "expensive".

Just to clarify (for anyone who cares), overpriced means the beer is not worth the price being paid. If you haven't bought a given brewery's beer because the price tag scared you off, then you have absolutely no foundation for saying whether that brewery's beer is over-, under- or correctly priced.

I agree with several of you that Mikkeller is overpriced. He makes a few great ones imo but the rest are just meh and he charges an arm and a leg for em...i guess he has to so he can pay his nomad fee

What? No, not even a little. Make sure you know what you're talking about before you post on a thread like this. Either that or go back to buying 18 racks of bud light.
