Just two weeks ago, at our family reunion, my brother brought a case of assorted Main Beer Co. beers to share (he spent the previous week in Maine). There was no Lunch, but I got to try a bunch of the others. I found Peeper to be actually really good, for a free beer being pulled from the cooler and poured into a solo cup , but a lot of the others were less impressive (particularly King Titus). I did walk away with the feeling that the beers are indeed overpriced, but not bad in a pinch.

I still want to try Lunch, though.

Another One was pretty good. I may be just bad batches but Peeper tastes like water and seltzer mixed- thin and watery.

The ones we had were bright and citrusy, very aromatic, and had sufficient body for the style. I guess we got some good ones. I didn't check the dates, though, but it seemed fresh enough.

Nebraska, Hoppin Frog considering price vs quality. I don't mind plopping $30 on an Eclipse, and I'd pay for Bruery Brews. I think Big Eye is way over priced for what it is, and Sculpin at $18 a 6 pk is high too.

Knee Deep(Hoptologist is a glorified Hop Stoopid clone at twice the price)

Lost Abbey (How Angel Share in a 375ML bottle can be the same price as Sucaba in a 22.oz bottle is mind blowing)

Ballast Point just because of Sculpin. 14.99 for a 6 pack of a single IPA? That's ridiculous. Its one of my favorite beers, but come on now!

Dogfish Head mostly because of their 750's. 13.99 for some of their basic 750 ml beers is just absurd.

Rogue, yet to have a good beer from them.

Ballast Point, with Sculpin. Reduce that baby in line with stuff like Union Jack and Centennial and you'll get more of my dinero.

Depends where you live, not all prices are the same... I believe that if any of you came to the Washington DC area you'd fine every beer on the shelf way overpriced.

Mikkeller is the obvious choice here. Hoppin Frog also gets a strong vote. Allagash tends to be a bit outrageously priced too.

Fact is, overprice something, and it becomes seemingly unobtainable. To the uninformed consumer, this is interpreted as quality. This can be anything from 'American-made' goods like guitars, to announcing something as 'hand-stitched' leather, to Versace beach towels to just mediocre beer with a pretty label and flashy price tag. Those with plenty of disposable money, often times, will spend it if marketed as a specialty. It's really about a niche market, as obscene as it is.

I'm going to have to defend The Bruery here, as everything I've had from them, save Hottenroth, deemed worthy the price charged. Sour in the Rye is, yeah, really expensive, but, IMO, worth it for special occasions. It's one of my personal favorites.

And I don't think Rogue is as bad as their rap gives them here...there have been some beers of theirs I've enjoyed, some I didn't. But, not that outrageously priced vs. competition unless you're solely considering bombers.

I agree... I'm a big Perennial fan but rarely buy their core stuff due to price and some of the more expensive seasonals haven't been worth the $15-$16. It does however make paying $15 for a growler fill at their tap room feel like a bargain.

The Bruery is justified, not every bottle, but most.

I totally disagree with the comment about Maine Beer Co. - Peeper for $6.99? Yes please.

Nebraska is very overpriced, and having been to their place I was pretty shocked they would try and charge that much.

To me the clear winner is Mikkeller and Evil Twin.

Allagash higher end stuff is cost prohibitive in my book. I am sure it tastes great but I am not shelling out that much dough to find out.. My guess is that is why we dont get Allagash here in WNY any longer because others felt the same way.
