I usually just assume that someone a lot smarter than me came up with that price, probably for a reason.

I hate to say it cause I like the Brewery but a lot of CCB stuff the last 2 years since they have gone to 22 OZ Bombers have become shelf turds even at the brewery...if the Dark Woods stays in the cooler much longer it may become Morning Woods..and not the good kind!!...and that is becoming a fairly regular thing with many of their bombers as I think the general consensus is becoming too much dollars for the quality of the beer

Seriously, $4.99 (Upstate NY) for Hop Stoopid is one of the best values in craft beer, imo

For me, The Bruery, Maine Beer, Ballast Point, Mikkeller and Eclipse 50/50 are beers I rarely buy because of the price. Also, someone earlier in the thread said Heady, and I'm going respectfully call you crazy. In the secondary market, sure, it's probably outrageous. But $4 or less for a can of Heady is worth every penny, imo. Same goes for Other Half and Tree House.

I don't think Grimm is too bad, I got Cloudbusting up here in the Hudson Valley for $18.70 a four pack.

Yeah...its good. But I hear you...a little overrated. I live an hour away from RR. I choose other offerings (not PTE) from them.

Yeah, back when I was in NJ, I would agree. Dirt Wolf is legit. Fresh, best $10 4 pack ever.

I'm curious which of their canned beers you think are overpriced. Around here, Furious, Overrated, and Bender are all about $8-9 for a 4 pack of pounders. I'll never piss and moan about $2 per can for those. The seasonal stuff might seem expensive - like Abrasive at $16 a 4 pack - but that's absolutely in line with similar beers from other brewers.

The only one you might be able to get me to agree with you on was this year's Wet, which was $17 for a 4 pack. That got a few groans out of me as I didn't think the quality of the beer matched the price.

While there are a few out there that I avoid due to what I consider to be overpriced, the only one I have written completely off the map is Eclipse. I stopped purchasing them 3 years ago. I cracked up at a guy I know bitching about Black Tuesday being $30 a bottle (much bigger bottle) and yet was lining up for Eclipse, and he loves Black Tuesday.:astonished:

I don't know what Ballast Point's deal is, but I bought a 12 bottle sampler (with their Yellowtail, Sculpin, and Wahoo) a while ago for $25, which I thought was a great deal considering a 6 pack of any one of those costs like $18 around here. The other two were good, but only Sculpin really stood out as being a great beer, but still not great enough to warrant $3 a bottle.

Will add Mikekeller, especially since I've yet to find one that I particularly enjoy all that much.

This thread is hilarious, I find myself reading some of the prices and thinking I wish I could get those beers so cheap!

Agree, often priced more than local craft.

Agree, I mean I know barrels aren't overly cheap and the barrel aged beer is a slightly different recipe, but I really hate the huge markup for barrel aging. In fact so many bottles of quality Bourbon, which are aged in barrels for much longer and require way more stewardship, go for a lot less than $40 a bottle. The markup is just plain dumb in my opinion!

North Coast Old Rasputin is a good example. The regular Russian Imperial Stout retails for a few bucks a 12 oz bottle, but often the barrel version is priced at $25+ for a 16.9oz bottle just to add some wood flavour in there. It's kind of ridiculous...
