Alaska most definitely. Alaskan, Anchorage, Midnight Sun, Glacier, Moose's Tooth and Sleeping Lady to name a few.

If you really think about it, considering the love Michigan and California get, Colorado is likely getting the shortest end of the stick.

That said, my gut response would be Wisconsin.

Everywhere I go I make sure to find the best local brewpubs or breweries to see what they got. Let me start by saying Minnesota is highly underrated. It's no mistake that almost all of the top beers in the midwest region here on BA are from Minnesota (http://beeradvocate.com/lists/top-midwest). 24 of the top 40 rated in the midwest are from Minnesota, including 8 of the top 10. Surly takes the cake, obviously. Minnesota is also in the midst of a huge boom in breweries/brewpubs opening in the state. Around half of the states breweries/brewpubs have opened in just the last few years and those numbers are going higher and higher. In the future I'd expect Minnesota to be getting more recognition than it does now.

Disclaimer: I will admit that with the states in the Midwest region on BA, Minnesota doesn't really have any state to compete with

As someone else said, this thread would have been better if it asked for a state you don't live in.

I don't really have enough experience to give a confident answer outside of my homestate of Pennsylvania, but I've had a good amount of brews from Ohio. But that's almost as homerish as picking PA. *shrug*

Born and raised in Michigan, now live in Salt Lake City. Anyone out there comparing the beer scene here to back in the Mitten is crazy. My home city of Grand Rapids now sports nearly 20 microbreweries, including the infamous Founders and the rising Brewery Vivant. Places like Grand Rapids, Ann Arbor, Traverse City, Madison WI, Eau Claire WI, etc just have a vibe about them that cradles the brewers lifestyle. Utah is a great place to do a lot of things, but drinking beer is not one of them. Utah should have not been mentioned on this list.

But after California, Colorado, Michigan, Vermont, Oregon, and Washington, my vote would go to Maine or New York - I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of variety and experiemental brewing going on in Maine and espiecially in Portland, and New York represents so well with a wide array of styles and lots of tradtition, not to mention some incredible beer festivals come fall.

I'd say Maryland. Ya, we don't have many, but the few that are here are really good. Love me some Heavy Seas, Flying Dog, eVolution, all really good.
