agree, the lighter styles if what I refer to as beers we began with. I did consume a great deal of Dinkel Acker CD Pils when I was a young lad, but you are correct, still not a master of the style, but what did I know!

That was a damn nice beer, and I drank a boatload of it too! It was a proper Pilsner for sure, although the current incarnation has lost a little zip off of the ol' fastball..

I wish more people would produce american black ales and american strong ales (not like DIPAs and Imperial stouts)

I would say American Dark Wheat ales. I've had some from 3 Sheeps Noble Lips series that almost rival some good imp stouts, just not as thick.

Really interesting list. By my count, including APAs (which I am assuming are mostly of the Zombie Dust, IPA-ish variety) and Porters (which I'm assuming are mostly of the "impossible to distinguish from imperial stout" variety), there are 171 out of 250 top beers that are essentially IPAs and imperial stouts. Not exactly a well-balanced representation of beer styles, but I guess we like what we like.

My personal pick for underrepresented style is the American Red Ale. One of my favorite styles that I seldom see, but can be delicious and eminently crushable.

Yea I was going off classic Czech and German Pilsners. There are several Pilsner variants which have higher than 4 scores. Many of those seem to be on the hoppy side for the style which may contribute to their higher score.

Been loving Dark Ales lately, especially those with a hop-forward profile. They don't seem to get a ton of love, but that's fine, more for me.

Was about to post Altbier as well, under appreciated and not often brewed in North America. Some local brewers have done an excellent job with these, there's a smoked honey Dopplebock that just hit the market which I find amazing.

    Under appreciated/rarely brewed
    • Altbier
    • Belgian Taflebier
    • Dry Irish Stouts
    • Gratzers

Guys, he even bolded the part in which he asked for styles that were NOT represented in the top 250.

    There's 6 saisons in the top 250.

    5 American Strong Ales...

1 Red Ale, and hoppy reda/amber ales are rated quite highly on this web site. Unless you're speaking to Irish Reds.

And I'm not even sure the top two, Humulus Lager and Kiwi Rising, actually use pils malt.

Can we make a poll on this thread? I'd put Pilsner on the poll for sure. Lagers in general seem to be underrepresented in the top 250.

I'd go with a good german hefe or pilsner. Both are readily available, affordable, and pretty crushable(if that's your goal). The bartender at my local craft bar usually looks at me funny sometimes when I order a Trumer Pils rather than breakfast stout etc. Sometimes I just need a bit of a break.

I love Pilsners, but I was going to say Scotch Ales/Wee Heavy but than Wulver showed up in the bottom of the top 250.
So Will come back and say that once a few more DIPAs get added to the top 250 and Wulver falls out.

I can understand the "less is more sentiment" that many BMC fans often have. I am on a quest for the most delicate refreshing pale lager. The problem is that sometimes beer with less taste is very astringent. When you take away too much you are left with harsh club-soda like stuff.

That's bourbon barrel aged. It doesn't count. "Scotch ales" are valid.

That's a good observation. I think it has to do with a high percentage of adjuncts which dilute whatever proteins are in the malt, so therefor the body will be lacking and you'll get that quality.

Hefeweizens seem popular here, Pilsners are often discussed, but milds and bitters are so obscure, so unknown to many here that they are usually (but not always) only mentioned by that equally rare type, the Englishman...Underrated? Ignored or dismissed (English hops? They're not hoppy...'malt forward hops')...

Pilsner. If I could only drink one beer style for the rest of my days, it'd be it.
