Maybe not as underrated as should be included in this thread, but definitely Alewerks Brewing and Stillwater Artisanal Ales

Night Shift. On both of my trips to NE, where i hit all the breweries, they were so damn good and brewed many different styles really well. Plus their great taproom, overall such a good experience and great beer.

I think that the most underrated breweries are the ones that are generally dismissed by a significant number of beer snobs as not "craft enough."

Specifically, I would point to BBC/Sam Adams, Leinenkugel and Matt/Saranac.

None of these breweries make beers that will blow one's mind. Rather, they make solid and affordable beers that are often superb for sessioning.

For the local scene in NY, my vote goes out to Singlecut and Finback. Grimm and Other Half get all the hype, and duly so as both are two of my favorite breweries. But Singlecut and Finback put out some great product as well.

For a brewery that makes damn fine saisons, Mystic often gets lost in the New England brewery shuffle.

Odell. Makes excellent, inexpensive versions of American and British styles.

Underrated would be Sierra Nevada. IMO they don't make a beer that wows me, but every beer they make is very good, calling them solid would be a slap. Their beers would never be at the top of a list in any style, but beers like Torpedo, Hop Hunter etc are really damn good beers, easy to get most places, every store here, some gas stations, and they are incredibly priced for the quality. The one exception was their Oktoberfest beer, that was a great beer and I would say special.

Great Lakes Brewing company is my contribution to this list. I always make sure to grab a six pack of their Christmas Ale during the holidays. And I feel that Elliot Ness is a great beer in its own right.

But maybe it's just because I grew up in ohio.
