Mother Earth in Vista, CA. The Boo Koo IPA Mosiac IPA canned was amazing! Some of the other IPAs were solid. The cali cream ale is a flavorful easy drink beer.

Massively underrated? It's #11 IPA on this site behind mostly hard to get beers (which tend to get inflated ratings).

Rising Tide out of Portland Maine gets no love for some reason. Awesome beers. Thread over.

Really? I feel like the whole mid-atlantic has been fangirling since opening (myself included)... for the area, and my tastes, I feel that both Forest and Main + Shawneecraft get passed over too often.

With the exception of the gift shop at Brewery Ommegang, our beers aren't available in Upstate NY.

Yes locally it's beloved but doesn't get the national hype as say a Casey or a SARA - not saying whether they are at the same level or not, just feel they don't get nearly the credit they deserve within the community overall

    you made great points
  9. JonathannRobert

    JonathannRobert Initiate (179) Jun 29, 2014 Delaware

Respect. Its funny because locally, everyone sees them as overhyped and on a national scale they totally aren't... my perceptions are totally skewed by having too many trade partners around the country/world that ask me to include TH in the shipments.

I would say Tired Hands is doing excellent things, over-hyped tends to be due to loss of scarcity that locals have, we see it here in Vermont with Hill, when you have more ready access to it you tend to seek out other beers that are "more rare" or that you have a limited access to. Nature of the beast I suppose, but Tired Hands is doing excellent beer, they have a miss every once in a while but more often than not they hit home runs.

Nail on the head, exactly the point I think we were both making.

Hell, I live 2 hours from Tired Hands at this point and I still make almost weekly trips.

You're right (although it wasn't #11 prior to the rating system shakeup), but I'd say it's mostly people from the region who are responsible for it being rated so highly, and that it does not get the credit it deserves on a national scale.
  13. miketd

    miketd Zealot (528) Mar 2, 2006 Ohio

I would say that about Fat Head's as a whole. They brew pales/hoppy beers as good as anybody and better than most. That said, I don't care about hype or national attention.

I would say Grizzly Paw brewing is fairly under rated for the beer they produce and what they do, Even though its a canadian brewery who doesn't export because of there size :slight_frown:

Dunno if underrated, or hasn't gotten well known enough yet, but Schilling in Littleton, NH is an awesome brewery. Definitely stopping there on my next trip to Hill Farmstead.

Odell underrated here in On BA maybe...

In my opinion, Marble Brewery out of NM is highly underrated. Their IPA, oatmeal stout, and red ale are outstanding. All their beers are very well crafted.

Locally NY : Barrier Brewing b/c not canning yet but make great beers in every style not just a million IPAs.

Nationally : Odell, Modern Times and others that don't get east of the Mississippi.
Oscar Blues seems to be a bit under the radar even though they make great beer in many styles too.
  20. JonathannRobert

IMO Modern Times gets credit for all the wrong beers... their stouts are great and all, but their real impressive work is their sour series.

Very true. If their bottle prices were normal, their beer would be pretty hard to get I'd imagine. I'm okay with the prices for accessibility's sake.

This is exactly what I was going to type when I saw 4 Hands mentioned. Madagascar especially seemed like it broke the seal for them in terms of their hype level.

Not to mention a couple of fantastic hoppy beers that aren't IPAs: Blazing World and Fortunate Islands are both outstanding beers. But one is a wheat and one is an amber--both seemingly death-knells for gaining big-time attention.

I'd disagree, they're competent brewers but they aren't seeing OH, a lot of their stuff is mediocre. Much nicer tasting room than OH though.

Barreled Souls in Saco, ME. Really enjoy their stuff - they do some really big beers (scotch ales, imperial stouts, etc) that are definitely worth a try if you are in the area.
