I'm getting ready to send a bunch of beer across the country, and I'm wondering what's the best way to go about doing so. I think it's gonna be like 10+ bombers and 2 6ers. What's the most you've sent at one time, and how did you package it?

I'd split that up into 2 boxes. Get 2 12-bottle styro shippers, and fill the 2 empty spaces in the big bottle shipper with nice extras.

You can always box up the (2) 6-packs without a styro shipper, just layer them properly and divide each layer with thick bubble-wrap and carboard/rigid foam. Don't go more than 3 layers deep in the box, and don't use a flimsy box.

I've sent a full case of (24) 12 oz bottles, split it into 2 boxes, and used the layering method, made it from NJ to Boston with no casualties. I'd be more leery about cross-country though. Invest in bubble-wrap envelopes (the courier type). Fits a 12-oz perfect sideways, and just roll it up and tuck it in the box.

I just sent 29 bottles of a mix of bombers and 12 oz. bottles (mostly bombers). I just used a nice double thick box and plenty of bubble wrap. Mine was two layers with the bottom layer having the bottles standing up and the top layer having the bottles laying down. The two layers were separated by a few layers of thick bubble wrap.

Mine made it from Wisconsin to L.A. no problem

Should have mentioned, one of the 6ers is cans. I think that's a great idea though - those two packs in one box and all the bombers in a styro shipper. Thanks!

Oh and so I have an idea yaknowbrady and mtrutlin, what was the cost of those ships?

I shipped a case of schlafly pumpkin and 1 750 in one box, just wrapped each bottle individually and separated each layer of bottles with more bubble wrap, can't remember if I double boxed it or not.

If you're shipping to Cali, I'd expect between $40-50.

    Good luck!

I've sent 40+ bottles of beer to Denmark on multiple occasions. I get those boxes as close to 70lbs as I can. It's by far the most cost effective way to send large volumes of ticker beers to europe.

I put each bottle into a separate fedex envelope. Then I put sets of 5 of these fedex-enveloped bottles into another fedex envelope. This creates mini "pillows" of tightly packed beer. I then go by the UPS store and buy one of their largest boxes and place my pillows in the box with a bunch of bubble wrap or peanuts.

The same system works with 22's as well, though you can only pack 4 22's into the combined fedex envelope.

Never had an issue and I've done this at least a dozen times.

I'd love to see Mordormongo try to ship a case of 12oz bottles at one time.

I've done about 20 bottles a couple of times. The densest strategy I've found is to do the classic "box within a box", whereby you load up a standard liquor box with 12 large bottles, peanut it, tape it up, and then put that into a bigger shipping box with peanuts/packaging. Now, if you buy a lot of crap from Amazon, you probably have a bunch of smaller thin boxes laying around that can hold 2-6 small beers/cans side-by-side. These boxes can usually tuck in between the walls of the outer box and the inner box - just use enough bubble wrap.

Failing that, you're either going to use a massive box, or just split it into two boxes. The massive box will be a bit cheaper, but also a much bigger hassle to pack.

My cost was just over $60 but the weight on the box was 60 pounds. I'm assuming your will be a little lighter.

I sent myself a box w/ about 40 bottles once (1/2 12oz and 1/2 bombers). I just bubble wrapped them and jammed them in tight. No issues.

Thanks for all the feedback! I was thinking smaller boxes was the way to go, so as to not draw too much attention to this large 50# box at FedEx. But it sounds like they'd prefer it, and it's cheaper. Great to know!!

Oh and it's not going all the way across the country, just to Chicago (so not all that far, now that I think about it ).

Most I've sent was around 200lbs. Six boxes with 12 bottle shippers in each.

Just use a styro wine shipper for the big bottles from UHaul. If your order is over $25, shipping is free.

For the 12oz bottles, what I like to do double-box a 22oz bottle case inside of a 12in cube box. Add bubble wrap to the bottom of the case box, wrap each bottle individually and keep them separated with the divider. Fill the rest of the case box and the outer box with newspaper and/or junky bubble wrap.
