I haven't seen a thread on this so figure I'd post it here for people who don't follow them on Facebook:

"Mother Earth Brewing is excited to announce the official release date for Blackberries, the first beer in our new limited release series, The Windowpane Series!!

Windowpane: Blackberries is a Double Wit beer, which is then fermented with blackberries and aged in a pinot noir wine barrel for three months! The finished product provides a spectacular combination of flavors that you don’t want to miss. And we’re releasing it exclusively in the Mother Earth Brewing Tap Room on Friday, May 11 at 4pm!! Due to extremely limited quantities of this special beer, this will be a BREWERY ONLY release, not be sold outside of the Mother Earth Brewing Tap Room, so make plans to be here early! Windowpane: Blackberries will be on tap at 4pm, and corked and caged 750ml bottles of this amazing nectar will be available for $20 each (limit 2 bottles per person). Classic Rock 106.5 will be broadcasting LIVE from the Tap Room from 5pm-7pm that afternoon as well.

As always, we’re expecting a spectacular turnout and lots of fun, so mark your calendar for Friday, May 11 and come experience the first taste of the spectacular Windowpane Series!"

Anyone planning on going? I might but it's a 4 hour drive each way from where I am so I'll have to give it some thought.

I'm interested....but....basically requires taking a 1/2 day at work (saturday releases rock), and this being their first sour beer....not knowing how good it will be....not sure.

It's a double Wit, granted it might take on a slight tartness from the fruit. I'm thinking if it turns out to be a sour beer that it would be more of an accident than intentional. Just to be sure though I'll see if I can get an answer.

    Not a sour beer.

And doesn't sound very good to me either..

Sounds like a stronger ABV attempt at something like New Glarus Wisc Belgian red.

Also, wouldn't the beer need to age longer to sour? I'm not super Knowledgable on sours, so this is probably wrong.

Except....and I could be wrong....but are there many fruit beers, aged in wine barrels, that are NOT at least sourish? New Glarus doesn't wine-barrel age their fruit beers, I don't think, which is why they're so sweet.
    This beer confuses me.

Years ago Big Boss aged a Tripel (or other Belgian style) in merlot barrels. I don't remember it being too sour but it really did add an interesting demention to that beer.

But yeah, I'm confused too. Curious to hear more about this one.

I'm curious to see the actual beer itself poured into glass. Wit beer aged in a red wine barrel....

Josh Brewer (the head brewer) replied to me that if there is any tartness in the beers in this series that it will be very slight to none at all, which i take to mean only from the fruit not from any bacteria or whatnot

Just opened my last 12oz bourbon-barrel Tripel Overhead (from the 1st bottling) the other night. It's really held up well. This one sounds strange indeed, but odd combinations of style and barrel treatment often do miraculous things...
