I have found myself with multiple bottles of 2012 MoaS and am interested in putting some up for trade. Long story short, I was living out of the country during the 2012 release and I split a case with a friend of mine. He agreed to (properly) store the beer for me until I could meet up with him to grab the beers. This proved more difficult than I expected and I just received the beer a week ago. I like the beer quite a bit but don't need this many bottles. Anywho, just wondering what it would pull these days. I haven't seen too many trades centered around it but do see it listed in offers using a multiple bottle list approach. I'm mostly interested in BA stouts, would parabola be in the ball park or other beers of that caliber? Let me know your thoughts and thanks.
I think MOAS are $25/ea. Parabola is usually less, depending on where you buy them from as they are limited, but widely distributed. You will have no problem pulling Parabola 1:1 and I think the Parabola side should add a little to even out $4$.
Thanks for the feedback, I think the 2012 version was $20 per bottle. Good to know about what it goes for, sounds like slightly higher than parabola which is in the ballpark. Any other limited BA stout recommendations to try and go after with this?
Limited or harder to get shelf beers that you don't have or haven't had and interested in trying at roughly $4$.
-Multiples of Dark Horse BA Plead the 5th -3 Bros Resolute (maybe small plus on their end) -Jackie O's dark apparition / ba dark apparition / ba black maple - Huna - CW 16 - Bells Black Note (multiples) - BA Speedway, JBM Speedway, Vietnamese Speedway - Pirate Bomb / Fred's Blend - BA Biscotti Break or DB Jesus - Stone Fyodor's Classic & Mikhail's Odd - Kuhnhenn Solstice Stout and Michigan Mud - Perennial Sump / BA Sump - Kane A night to end all dawns
If you like Firestone, I think 2 bottles of the standard barrel aged offerings would be good with a small plus on your end. Should easily go for the pricier Anniversary beers if you like those. Had a 2012 MOAS earlier this year and it was downright delicious. Have a 2011 in the cellar and debating when to crack that.
Just going to piggyback off this thread for now. Was wondering if people could chime in with their rankings of MoAS from, say, the past four years (2011-2014). Realize not many have probably tasted them all recently, but trying to get a sense if any of the 4, as it's drinking right now, is a consensus pick.
IMHO, Mother of all Storms is one of those rare beers that needs age to be at its best. I've had the '08 - '13 in a number of different states, from fresh to four years old. Fresh it's pretty good, with one year it's really good, with two plus years it's in the category of elite brews of the world. For your four years, I would say the 2012 is probably the best right now - that vintage is out of this world in my opinion. If you get the opportunity to grab a Stormwatcher's Winterfest from the same year, do it. It's the base beer & having them side-by-side will give you a good idea of why MoaS is so damn good.
Agree on this - emphasizing the part that Stormwatcher's doesn't get the respect it deserves. Even locally ... it just sits on the shelves, unloved. There are probably still 2012 bottles on shelves!
Yup, I can't speak to the other vintages but we opened up some 2012 a couple months back and it blew everyone away. In general I am not a huge english barleywine guy but it was absolutely fantastic.
