For the past year or so I have been on a quest. The quest was to visit every state but not physically. I visited by sampling a craft brewed IPA from each state. It has been great. I have relied on a network of friends, relatives, and coworkers. I have three states remaining: Florida, Virginia, & West Virginia. I have people who claim they can get Florida and Virginia for me; my trouble is West Virginia. So I am thinking I may capstone my quest with a trip on my motorcycle this summer. The problem is I live in western South Dakota so it will be 1500 miles. I do not want to waste the trip so I need suggestions. I would like to visit a brewer who would appreciate my quest. I would prefer a bottler/canner but a craft brewer with a good IPA and friendly attitude would make my trip the perfect end to this quest. Anyone have suggestions?
Posting in the South-Atlantic forum is more likely to get you WVa locals responding. If all else fails, the places directory on this web site might give you some ideas and potential contact information. Good Luck!
I live in Morgantown WV. We have a few craft breweries in town that have some solid offerings, but for a good IPA I would recommend the Charleston Brewing Company or Greenbrier Valley Brewing. Neither brewery is very convenient if coming from SD, but those are my favorites. Chestnut Brew Works is the best in Morgantown. Let me know when you head this way and I'll meet you for a beer!
New breweries were in their 'soon' phase when I lived in Wheeling in October. I wonder how things are moving along now? There was a spot called Market Vines with a really cute bartender and 4(!) taps usually with a local-ish option. Wheeling Brewery or whatever was opening up next door, and a local brewer was selling me tales of getting his more better more cooler brewery off the ground soon too. Really, if you go to WV look for Sam on here in the local forum, dude is quite hospitable and generous although I don't recall his username. FYI pizza there is served with cold cheese/toppings, beware. They intend you to eat it as is or take it hope to complete cooking even when you order for here/by the slice. ??¿¿
I'd be happy to send you some WV beer, I need to tick ND & SD myself But if you decide to travel to our great state, feel free to contact me. I'll lead you in the right direction if you're in the southern part of the state.
It seems as though the trip may be on hold or canceled. I am not sure the distance would agree with me. It sounded great when I started planning but that would be 1500 lonely miles. South Dakota and North Dakota are pretty sparse for bottlers. Ican get crow peak brewing from SD and will be in ND later this month so could get Fargo brewing (wood chipper IPA is good and has a great name). What styles would you be interested in?
