Please respect our Kittery neighborhood, residents and businesses alike. Cheers!
I thought the gin added a little citrus/herbal note, but wasn't super noticeable. I appreciate that he keeps experimenting every batch.
Anyone know how these releases generally are? I probably won't be able to get there til 12 / 12:30, are lines crazy / would I have a chance of not walking away with bottles?
I arrived at noon to the Spring 2017 release and the line was wrapped around the back of the building, so I skipped it. Fall 2016 was maybe a 25 minute wait at like 2pm. The line moves painfully slowly because of the taproom's limited capacity. Pours + bottles = same line.
Looks like they'll be running two lines which is nice. I was also curious about timing overall but sounds like early afternoon would be OK. Plus, there's enough for 750 people assuming everyone maxes out, which seems unlikely given the price point.
The last 2 releases I've arrived at 4:00 PM, waited 15 - 30 minutes. No problems getting bottles. Way better than the first release getting there at 1:00 and waiting 3 hours. I'm sticking with that plan again. Pro tip: if you don't hang inside too long, go to Black Birch afterwards.
Hopefully When PIgs Fly will be there with their porchetta again. THis spring's batch was exceptional. If you arrive right at open, you'll have to wait a while. IIRC, spring there was even a few bottles left for Sunday morning. I think there is a Swish release the same day, so open probably won't be quite as crazy as usual, people will be trickling in from Swish.
I don't believe WPF will be there. Rob, the chef, has moved on to a different restaurant in York. Blue Mermaid which is working on opening in Nov next door will have a food truck I think.
"two constants: apple brandy, and port, plus gin and amontilladado sherry. Tasting very interesting with two fortified wines. One red (port) and one white (sherry). "
I was there yesterday, and I really liked this batch. The last one with the Islay Whisky barrels had a bit too much of the peat thing going on for my taste. I was chatting with Todd and he said that he loved that expression, so he really liked that batch, but he'd had a lot of feedback saying more people didn't care for it. I do think its great that he's changing things around for each batch. There's something to be said for keeping it static all along, but this beer changes each batch and it's more interesting for that.
Had a pour at the brewery and got 2 bottles to let sit. It's a delicious beer. Better than fall 2016 IMO
