ok guys need your thoughts . Been trading a long time and always have done the right thing so I want some feedback . I agreed to a trade on Friday. We sent our information to each other and I sent a trade request. I told op I would ship Monday(today) after he accepts the trade request. Over the course of the weekend and today I bmed him to accept the trade request so I can ship today. No response and no acceptance of trade request . Now he did say he wouldn’t be able to ship till Tuesday but the issue I have is now the beer (Medianoche reserve) has some bottles that are infected. Is it ok to cancel deal since no trade request was accepted
Eh. Shady territory. My inclination is, no - you agreed to the trade, you exchanged info, the deal is locked down whether the trade was accepted or no. Ship beers, follow through. If the Noche ends up being infected, ask the shipper to make it right. But that's a very tough question. It's likely impossible for anyone to get another Reserve to replace a bad one. So I'd wait until your trading partner can be reached. Discuss it before proceeding any further. Did you exchange cell numbers? I'd go that route. I would have mixed feelings about your backing out, were I your trading partner, but I'd likely understand - and I doubt your partner will have a difficult time lining up a different trade. I wouldn't trade with you again though.
Are you sending or receiving the Medianoche? Work this out with your trading partner. If you are sending and he is OK with taking the risk, then if beer is infected that is on him. If you are receiving the beer and you are uncomfortable, trading partner should agree to cancel the deal. If beer has already been sent, can have it rerouted back but the two of you might want to figure out how to cover the cost of sent package.
I am somewhere between the two above posters. I feel like new information has come to light, and things should be worked out amicably. That is, if either of you feels uneasy about it now, I feel like both parties should be understanding. (These are the people that I like to trade with.) Given that you are saying that some might be infected (I have no idea, just taking what you are saying), I feel like no one should be forced into a trade with a potentially infected bottle AND no one should want to push someone into a trade with that. I can understand how someone might be upset about all this. I understand a commitment was made. -But it sounds like this was a very quick timeline. So, if it has only been a few days, no one really lost out on time. Any other trade that occurred in the same timeframe would still be subjected to the same scrutiny of a potentially infected bottle. So, I kind of feel like the agreed-upon-ness is more moot given the circumstances.
Yeah, I think I'm going to change my stance a bit - backing out of trades is always a little unpleasant, but I definitely understand the circumstances and wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of an infected bottle (I've cracked three infected Central Waters bottles in the last couple weeks... it's getting old). Plus, knowing up front that it's a distinct possibility - yeah, I'd hold off, talk to your trading partner and ask that the trade be canceled. It's for honest and legitimate reasons - totally kosher... though it definitely does suck a bit. I would be pretty let down if I had a Noche Reserve all lined up, only to hear about the infection issues. Sorry, man.
I ve never backed out of a trade and would never that’s why I posted. I ve been trading for years on Facebook and other sites and have never had any negative feedback. I ve replaced limited bottles that got damaged in shipping and have gone above and beyond. I m going to work something out and move forward cause I did commit . I m hoping he will be cool and come to an understanding which I believe he wil . Thanks for the feedback it’s good to hear other people’s views.
If he never accepted the trade request... then the deal never was confirmed. Definitely it is quite reasonable to cancel and end it. I had a guy that agreed for a trade, I sent the request but never accepted. Never responded, and I moved on. It happens. On a side note, even if you formally accepted the trade - I'm sure the other trader would let you cancel the trade for an infected bottle. That is quite understandable.
Even if a trade was accepted and news came out that a key bottle in the trade has infected bottles, the person with the infected bottle would be a total douche to try to hold you to a trade. On the flip side, if this info came out after beers were received, every man for himself. That beer is yours now.
The most recent batch of Central Waters Rye Barrel Chocolate Porter has been showing widespread signs off-flavors.
