What do you get in your area that would be cool? I would love to set you up with an Iowa beer starter pack :-)

Well, the best one I can think of offhand is Thirsty Dog's Wulver, which is the smoothest bourbon barrel wee heavy I've had. Then some oddities like the Triple Digit Chickow!, a "brown ale" that's more like drinking alcoholic Nutella. Oh, and there's an Ohio-specific Clown Shoes RIS that's just their Blaecorn Unidragon cranked down to 12% ABV so they could sell it here. Heh.

Aside from that, there's Fat Head's, Jackie O's, Hoppin' Frog, and Great Lakes, most of the offerings from which are findable. It's Blackout Stout season for Great Lakes at the moment, and they make the best Vienna lager I've ever had year round...

I am, alas, not a big hops guy, so if there's any sort of spectacular IPA or similar around, I'm not the best information source. (I know, I know, why am I even into craft beer...) But if there's anything that sounds good, I can see about tracking it down.

Plus their wings are great, and they're a Cyclone bar. 3 of my favorite things under one roof.

If you like beer, backpacking, and kayaking, Decorah needs to be on your lists of Iowa places to visit.

Even if you are vegetarian you should check it out. They have 3 different vegetarian patties. It was one of my daughters favorite vegetarian places to eat when she lived here.

If you like soccer and cyclones, KegStand is great.

If you're an American, I'd avoid it.

Their beer selection is awesome and the people are great. It's my favorite place to go when I am back in town.

Confluence is the best brewery in Des Moines IMHO. If you're venturing outside, Cedar Rapids (about 2 hours away) has LionBridge, which is just awesome for a startup and won a gold at WBF for their Workers Comp. Obviously Decorah is the place to go if you're into a beer/outdoors trip.
