    Currently visiting and staying downtown for a couple of days. Looking for best places with largest taps or local brews.

    Also, looking for bars to watch Michigan football anywhere in Austin.

    I'm not in Austin, but it seems like the best places in town are North by Northwest and Austin Beer Works. I highly recommend going to Jester King, which is a couple miles west of town off 290.

    I know Pluckers on South Lamar is where the all the Michigan fans go to watch the games. You need to hit up The Draught House, Banger's, and Craft Pride. Welcome to Austin!

    Local = Craft Pride (50+ taps, all Texas)

    Largest = Bangers (100+ taps)

    Best = Draught House (but its a bit outside of downtown)

    Bottles = go see Sam at East 1st Grocery

    Lucky you, I moved from Michigan to El Paso. You got the monumentally better deal.

    Get all the Kuhnhenn you can carry and contact me when you arrive! And a second on the recommendation of the Draughthouse for local pub. Watching Mich might be a little tough, especially if the serious teams like Texas, A&M, or of course Ohio State are playing. :}

    We honestly get a lot of the beers they get in MI in TX now. I was pretty surprised last time I was up there. Aside from their small local stuff and bells.

    It would be nice to see Plead the 5th on the shelf here

    I have always liked the Gingerman. Bangers was good. Liked the Draught house, but the house beers were off.

    If you get out to the Hill Country try the Barbershop in Dripping Springs.

    Moved to Austin from Michigan in 2009 you will love it here. A lot of good suggestions already but check out the Flying Saucer.

    They actually completely gutted the brewery at the Draught House. Supposedly they're going to be moving it upstairs, since the dentist (who actually owns the bar) moved her practice out of the 2nd floor. Still ongoing though.

    Does this mean they'll finally have decent hours during the week?

    They just recently extended their weekday hours to 3pm-2am. Weekends are still 1pm-2am.

    If you're looking for an early bar... check out the Spider House on Guadalupe. I hang there occasionally with my other third-shift homies. Decent taps and they open at 7am. :wink:

    Well, wait until they rebuild it, lol.

    I'd suggest heading up the road to Pinthouse Pizza. It's literally less than a mile up Burnet from there. They're making some killer brews.

    It will be some months before we go to see family. The niece likes Pinthouse.

    this is for all the breweries in TX for tour reasons...

    Also, as far as the Michigan watch parties go, I have no idea on that one. People already covered the bars to go to for beer. I usually just have people over on Saturdays for college football since we have 6 TVs going with almost every game on (and if since you are a Michigan fan, I am sure I can manage to get your game on). That usually turns to an informal beer tasting by the end of it....you are welcome to stop by for that if that interests you.
