I just saw this picture from an article about an Australian Darts competition. I've never seen anything like this before, it's pretty impressive. Anyone seen anything else this unusual or inventive?
I get the feeling that this http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/darts/30761576 wouldn't have happened without copious amounts of beer.....
"Bucket boys" (aka "rushers" or "Kesseljunges") in the US used notched poles to carry growlers from bar to worksite.
Nice picture. I didn't realize the term growler went back that far. This article here on BA gives a little background for those interested in reading: http://www.beeradvocate.com/articles/384/
Yeah, I know that pic - I always figured that was a custom-made item, fabricated by one of the tin-knockers who worked for W. Toepfner & Sons Iron Works, who got tired of that damn kid spilling half the beer by the time he got back to shop.
Such humanity led to this amazingly awesome caption: "Robin and an Oompa Loompa attend to an injured crowd member"
Reminds me of an episode of James May's 'Man Lab': http://www.drinkstuff.com/blog/james-mays-man-lab-solving-the-problem-of-carrying-beer/ "They have come up with a prototype carrying device which relies on atmospheric pressure – a rubber disc seals the beer glass, while a pressure gauge allows it to be carried or hooked to a carrier. This allows you to carry a whole round of beer back to your table without spilling a drop however busy the bar is. Genius!"
