There is in WI. Not the best, but decent. @steveh have you tired this? Hell if I know how close it is to a traditional Helles.

Just picked up a 6pk of Jacks Abby House Lager (and less than a month old). Really excited to try it out. I'll report back once I crack one.

Wow. The malt character is absolutely sublime. [I should note that I do not truly know what a traditional Helles lager should be, I don't have that reference point]. Bready as hell (), one of the breadiest beers I've ever had, in fact. Finishes with grassy hops. Very drinkable and incredibly tasty. I will say that it is quite different from Weihenstephaner Original- but it's been awhile and I can't really pin down the differences specifically. Regardless- I highly recommend this. The aroma is bursting with sweet breadiness.

WTF!!!! I was just getting ready to post this very question. I actually enjoy Ninkasi Helles Belles in bottles occasionally, but specifically looking for canned Helles beers available in Pacific NW. I've never seen Ninkasi in cans. Can you please say where in the Seattle area this may be? I swear I've searched at least a 60 mile radius from the city and have never noticed Ninkasi cans.

Also, my #1 choice/request is for a canned version of: Weihenstephaner Original Munich Helles Lager

Why is this not possible? Wouldn't it be more stable/fresh and easier/lighter cargo weight to ship this over to the United States?

Only Munich Helles Lager I've had in cans was from Surly. It was really good, but shipping into the PNW practically doubled my costs last time.

I pick up a lot of very nice honey notes in the Turntable Pils as well. In my experience it's the Czechs that showcase those sweeter (however you want to describe them honey or otherwise) malt qualities, while the Germans tend to be a bit more assertive in the bitterness.

Many moons ago I remember walking around Amsterdam, near the huge Heineken brewery and taking in the gorgeous roasty aromas. It was like an aroma blanket of very fresh bread. At the brewery tasting room the beer was very good and unlimited! It really was liquid bread.

To me the whole bready thing is just describing yeast flavor/aroma. Lagers being very straightforward and uncomplicated (flavorwise that is, brewing a good lager is by no means an easy process) they tend to showcase that quality more. If you have ever worked with raw dough you will know it tends to have a beerish, lagery smell, particularly when it starts to get a bit old.

Sorry man -- missed the call out two weeks back.

No, never seen this. Wausau, eh? Does it get distributed down south?

That's certainly a part of it, but a well-made, decoction-brewed lager will bring the best out of good barley even before fermentation.
