Me and a friend are starting to plan a trip to Munich Oktoberfest this year. I'm looking for any expert advice I can get from my fellow BA's on how to do this trip right. And...... go!

Search the Germany forum, lots of info on Munich and the Oktoberfest available.

You might want to check hotel availability and book NOW. You're cutting it close.

I was going to say the same thing, if you're going to do it, do it now! You might still be able to get an airbnb, I'm looking at the site right now and there are some decent places a little bit out from the innenstadt for a decent price. If you can get one close to the S-Bahn you should be good.

And really, that's all you have to do, except for the flight. Anyone can go to Oktoberfest, you don't need reservations or anything, but look up information online about the different tents and so forth.

homeaway.com is another great site we used (at the time airbnb had fees and possibly still do).

You can ask for a hefeweizen beer if the festbier isn't to your liking. Does take a bit longer to acquire, but worth it! I'd recommend going early afternoon and finding a spot in a tent. Order yourself a beer and food. Then you can wander around as long as you want. It has been my experience that it's harder to get a beer the later into the evening/night it gets. The tents are crazy full on the weekends, but weekdays aren't usually as packed.

    be a good ambassador. :-)

I'd also plan to extend your trip as much as possible and do the 'fest at the tail end. It's a double whammy celebrating and dealing with jetlag. But that would allow you to do some touristy stuff as well. There's quite a lot in that area. If you want to get away from the city stuff Berchtesgaden is one of my favorite German cities, but a lot of that is due to the mountains!

I went last year. Stayed at a the TRYP Munich hotel, very close, saw the opening parade, went during the weekdays early. It exceeded every expectation I could have had.

First day we got a tent and stayed there all day. Really fun to see how the day progresses and how the energy ramps up.

Second day we hopped around all the different tents, checked out the fair.

Other days we went and hit up the big local bier halls (Augistinner, HB, etc), did some sight seeing, went out to Weheinstephaner (not really worth it imo). The trains there are fantastic and pretty easy to figure out.

Wear Lederhosen. 75%+ of the people in the tents wear them or Dirndels.

If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask!
