im about to brew a muntons all extract ipa and i was wondering if anyone has added anything to give the beer more body? grains? hop? dry hop? i brewed a muntons nut brown earlier this winter and it turned out fine, i met all the specs it listed. im an ipa guy. my fave beer would be fitgers brewhouse- el nino. or almost all from the brewhouse. but also love torpedo, two-hearted, inversion. the beer is muntons connoisseurs ipa and im adding a PME. should i hop it up? or dry hop?
its as basic as it gets, pretty vauge... add it to hot water +170 degrees. stir. then it says put in your yeast. but im gonna do the yeast around 71 deg... anything close to any beer i mentioned in the first post.. i realize that is close to impossible, and i havent brewed it before, so im already selling this beer short. but if this beer has the same results as the nut brown i brewed, which lacked everything, there was barley any malt flavor, it tasted veery watered down. altho the nut flavor was present and upfront. i followed my instructions to the t. and met OG, FG perfectly. so if there are any ideas im open to trying em
Actually, I meant what are the ingredients? But since you didn't mention hops... Is it a pre-hopped extract, therefore just the can of extract plus the yeast?
without knowing the ingredients, the only thing I could suggest is dry-hopping. For five gallons toss in 2-4 oz of hops. However, if your last munton's recipe came out great as-is, why would you want to alter a recipe you haven't tried yet? I would try it as-is, given their good track record, and see if it needs modification for next time.
the ingredients is a can of muntons conessures range IPA bitter, and a can of pure amber malt extract. thats it. i did a nut brown of the same brand, the same ingredients, just a nut brown not ipa.. and was underwhelmed. to say the least. i wanna possibly change it cause im "afraid" i will be underwhelmed again i guess. ill prolly do as is, just wanted to ask around and see if anyone changed it because of the same concerns i shared..
yeah its pre hopped... the reason, ive read and youtubed some things about pre-hopped extracts, some need more hops.
Okay, so it's pre-hopped. And there's no way to know what exactly is in those extract cans. So I would either brew it as is, or as AlCaponeJunior suggested, add some dry hops at the end of fermentation, as that would be the most likely flavor/aroma component missing from pre-hopped extract. You like Two-Hearted...so maybe use Centennial. Don't know what hops are in your extract, but Centennial gets along with just about anything IMO. You could also taste a sample at the end of fermentation, then decide what/if to add.
You may not find anyone on this forum who brews pre-hopped kits, let alone this exact kit. Too little control over the outcome from an ingredient standpoint. And if you stick with it, I bet you'll ditch them fairly quickly.
thats ok thanks! im a n00b to brewing anyway. i got some extract beers as gifts to get my feet wet. and i find them useful to finding my style also refining and streamlining my methods. i am definitely ditchin because i also wasnt in control of the outcome. but im brewing this (my last) all extract.. next up after is a partial extract brown ale. after that not sure hope to be all-grain within a yr.
