What ingredients did your Muntons kit come with?

What does the extract say on it? Does it say 'hopped extract?' And is it kind of dark?

From what I've been able to gather with a quick google search, it looks like this is a pre-hopped extract, and that the extract already includes extract from specialty grains (thus no separate steeping grains). That's why you have just a can of extract and the yeast.

That said does the can say to add sugar to it? It may be better to add a liquid malt extract to it instead to give an equivalent amount of fermentable sugar to it...

Also, consider reading http://www.howtobrew.com as it really helps you make better beer.

    That's what I see too.

Don't panic, just see what the directions say, and brew it. I've never had any issue with Munton's extracts, and you probably won't either. A nut brown wouldn't have a whole lotta hops, even if they weren't already included in the extract. You'll be fine, and your beer will be fine. I have made extract batches that had no specialty grains that came out delicious. You can too.

Just make sure and read directions, focus on fundamentals, and probably you should read how to brew.

ive been researching brewing for years and got the books, and also youtubin too. for some reason I just thought I needed more just because of the other beer I have yet to brew with all the grains and whatnot.. so
    thanks

One of my very best extract brews was really very surprising... nothing but liquid wheat extract, elderberries, and hallertau/saaz hops. You don't need fancy to make great extract beer.

    Elderberry Wheat Beer I

Ironically, I didn't write down the WEIGHT of how much extract I used! Probably had an ABV of about 5.2%, so it can be figured out tho.

If you just have the can go with what kjyost recommended and use DME or LME instead of adding sugar. Failing this you could do a 1/2 batch (2.5 gal or 10L) or use two cans for a full 5 gal.

My suggestion to you is to list all the ingredients you have from both kits and ask for a recipe suggestion. Someone on here will nail it on the head for you no worries. I'm guessing that if you combine what you have from both kits you will have less beer but much better beer.

Great idea! Dump all ingredients in a pot, add a kitchen sink, brew and enjoy! :grinning:

Let's see what ingredients he has on hand first. He will definitely need the kitchen sink for an ice bath to cool that pot post boil.

I'll go as far as to say that the OP would be able to brew a decent beer with what he has on hand. Even if he dumped it in a bucket and threw a towel over it to ferment it (considering that he has reasonable temp control.)

    Let's see.

OP please post what you have in both kits.

I'm pretty sure he's referring to a no-boil, just add water kit, they are the standard beginner kits sold in the uk

And I echo what others have said, use a can of unhopped extract instead of sugar

If you want to keep going with these sorts of kits then try the two can kits instead, they are a lot better by and large - the woodforde ones are good
