what people don't seem to understand is that ease of the bottle holder's obtaining of the bottle is not the major determiner of trade value. surely ease of the bottle wanter's obtaining the bottle is what matters.

sure, we all want A Fair Deal or whatever (i actually don't care, but rhetorically "we all want"). but value comes up via supply and demand, not "oh it was so hard for me to produce these goods, i realllllly think you should pay me more for them!"

I would agree, the bottle count really mixes things up. I would say most of the beers on that list (mostly "brewery only" releases) do and should trade for King Henry and Cherry Rye except for the BA Vanilla Dark Lord strictly because of the low bottle count and the fact is that you were lucky to get one bottle maybe a second one max. I am of the opinion that the shelf-whales should trade equal (not over) brewery only releases, somewhat close to $4$.

A lot depends on the allocations, and how much of someone's allocation hits the trade market. Something like BA Speedway with a 4 bottle allocation will inevitably lead to excess bottles landing on the trade market, while a similar Midwest shelf-whale release ends up being more thinly distributed. You're lucky to find one, maybe two bottles, and so there's not as much excess supply that hits the trade market.

Of course that's just the supply side, I agree with what Pahn said regarding the demand side as well. The market is really driven by what people really, really want and what they're willing to give up for it.

Cracked a bottle last night at Gene and Georgetti's, lives up to the price tag IMO. Glad I can run down there and grab more at my leisure for the future. LOTS of Black Albert and Dark Lord in the bottle I had last night, not so much darkness or Weasel. Really molasses-y(!?!?), should age well over the next two or three years.

What was the corkage fee for that bad boy? Did they bring you snifters?

Do you like Black Albert on its own?

I've got a few still, if he wants to do IP chi I'd be glad to save him a trip to FFF.

$35 a bottle, brought us regular wine glasses, they cracked/poured them for us (didn't actually want them to do this, but I didn't want to make a stink), and yes I like BA Black Al quite a bit (sentimental to Eb's).

Thanks for thinking of me. I am planning on sending a friend by there to pick one up for me. $50 beers just end up being too costly and too difficult to work out a trade for them. Just not worth the hassle for either of us.
