so i had my one and only bottle of this last night and it blew me away. the only other sour i've had has been a monk's cafe and i wasn't very excited about it. it isn't that i didn't like it, but it didn't take my breath away. so my question is are there any other sours / wild ales out there that are similar to this but with maybe a lower price tag or greater distro? i'm looking for something else made here in colorado, and figured muscat probably didn't make it far from our region anyway, so i'm not hitting up the regular beer thread with this question. locals only i guess.

I am not familiar with any local sours similar to Muscat really. Especially at a cheaper price point. There are several local sours that I'd recommend, but they aren't cheap. Perhaps someone else can help. I'd be interested to hear their responses.

Trinity has good sours, but they really are not cheap at all. Crooked Stave's Petite Sour is a nice delicate sour. I've sampled some draft only sours at Odell and Dry Dock that have been great, but that doesn't really help you, sorry.

I found Muscat D'Amour to be more funky than sour, so I would agree with hopfacebrew and say Crooked Stave is the way to go. Most of their stuff is in the $13 range and everything I have had from them has been good, some more funky than others.

Crooke Stave Petite Sour. I lighter take on sours. Fantastic beer, especially for summer.

Hit me up if you want. I have one in the cellar that I wasn't going to drink. Just haven't got into the sours enough yet. I tried a bottle of Immitis and just didn't take to it.

i've been looking for crooked stave, almost picked one up, but FW XV was right next to it, and i wasn't looking for a sour at the time. how about funkwerks?

Funkwerks is strictly saison, I believe. Crooked Stave is their "sister" brewery.

Have you tried any Gueze? I am not familiar with any local guezes but that's the style that introduced me to "sour" beer.

How about New Belgium/The Lost Abbey collaboration Tart Lychee?

The new Belgium tart lychee is good. The lost abbey collab will be out in a few months.

La folie is always a great option.

Are you in fort Collins? I can do an IP trade for some other good sours

Had to open another Muscat after seeing this thread. Great stuff! Also looking to get a bottle of Immitis still if anyone has 'em.

Get some Petrus aged pale or some cuvée Rene gueuze.

Sours in Colorado are hard to come by, but they are here. The best, and most readily available is the Giradin Gueuze Black Label (always have them in Bolder).

A few weeks ago, the Denver area got some Hansens (Raspberry, Cassis, and Schaerbeekse Kriek), some should still be around. Also, Drie Fonteinen's Schaerbeekse Kriek is still on some shelves (at a whopping $40). All super sour.

The Tart Lychee was disappointingly un-tart, but that was on tap and maybe the bottle will be better.

Highly recommend the Petite Sour for a lighter, more refreshing "sour"

Look for Cuvee de Jacobins Rouge. Great value at $6 a bottle. Pretty sour, but has some wine characteristics, too.

    Maybe try Russian River's Sanctification.

Not quite the same, Muscat D'Amour seemed quite unique to me, but Sanctification is the closest comparison I could come up with.

Got MORE then I want lol stuff didn't trade for crap. Good beer, not the greatest Avery sour, but still good. To the guy who posted above, this is a HORRIBLE choice for a first sour lol it is extremely tart. Better to work ones way up to that, or risk being turned off to some tasty beers.

That was my thought. I picked up a bottle of CS Petite Sour to give a try.
