Never been and arriving tomorrow for Brewvival. Best places to eat and drink beer? Also any kid friendly suggestions?

    Thanks!

Definitely check out Closed for Business at 453 King St. They are having a beer dinner on Friday night with Peter Bouckaert from New Belgium. They also usually have a great tap list with some locals like COAST, Westbrook and Holy City.

Restaurants are varied and delicious. There's a whole slew of them around the old slave market. The original Sticky Fingers BBQ is there on Church Street. Magnolias is also amazing haute cuisine one block off the slave market along the battery side. Haven't been there in a while so I don't know the latest craft beer scene.

There's only about fifty great spots to dine - for the $ it's tough to beat Tommy Condon's, it's an Irish pub with kick ass food and a nice selection of brews - very much kid friendly. I actually put their shrimp and grits up against any of the pricier spots. Just down the block from Condon's is a small Italian joint, can't recall the name, with great food. Hyman's seafood is a staple, lots of southern fried stuff but they've got other things too. If money isn't an issue - McCrady's is amazing - the chef is making a big name for himself, he's been on the cooking channel a couple of times lately.

I've been in dozens of bars there over the years, can't recall any certain spot with blow-you-away selection, but you won't care. Ask the locals what they suggest - you have to check out some of the rooftop bars, weather permitting. There's a great little martini bar near the slave market, named Squeeze - cool name because the joint is long and very skinny - they make all kinds of fresh drinks and the staff are super laid back and cool. Actually, ask them the best spot for great brews - they know their shit.

Let us all know what you find - I'm there at least once a year and there's always something new to check out.

if you don't visit the Charleston Beer Exchange, you will regret it. That place is so cool and the guys there are the cat's pajamas!

Coleman Blvd in Mt. Pleasant has a bunch of craft centric events happening. Coleman Pubic House is hosting the Green Flash Launch Party, Finns is Hosting a Stone Pint Night and House of Brews has Great Divide Brewing in the house!

Any other beer stores to visit? My brother will be there for a few days and I'd like to have him pick me up some stuff I can't get in Missouri. Any chance he could find some Mexican Cake somewhere in Charleston?

CBX should have most things you need. If they don't have it, they are cool enough to help you with suggestions, but they are my go to for everything. I drop $400+ every trip to them.

Jesus there's some bad recs in here. Hymans? Tommy condons? And who the hell calls it the slave market? I hope you didn't waste your time and money at some of these spots and a local filled you in on where to go.

Someone who doesn't know that slaves were never sold there. It may have been the first time Condon's has ever been referred to as kick ass. As for hyman's, it's like herpes - just won't go away. I generally avoid kid friendly places like the plague, but there seem to a fair amount of minivans in the fllet landing parking lot on occasion.
