The girlfriend is going to be in Sacramento the San Fran next week. I am working on a list of beer to bring back here (WV). What are some "do not miss" beers I should look for. I def want Pliny and prob anything Russian River. I'm trying to talk her into hitting Santa Rosa on the way to San Fran. If anyone has advice/info/suggestions I'd love to hear em. I'm looking for: 1)Where to get bottles 2)What bottles I shouldn't miss 3)Best way to pack and transport back east. Thanks all!!!
Drakes should have Hopocalypse (white label) left at their barrel house. Beer stores should be getting their allotments around that time also. That's my pick.
FYI, Sana Rosa is not on the way to SF from Sacramento. It will add a couple hours of total driving time to the trip, or more depending on traffic.
Get some fresh Knee Deep Simtra and Hoptologist. If your into IPAs, get some Track 7 Panic IPA and Left Eye, Right Eye DIPA here in Sac. Should be able to find some kind of Almanac. I'll echo Drakes Hopocalypse. Maybe get a Denogginizer too. Highwater Campfire Stout. What don't you really get in WV from California? Things like Alesmith, Firestone, Bruery, etc. are fairly easy to get our here. In Sac, Capitol Beer and Taproom, Final Gravity, or Total Wine will have what you are looking for. Davis Beer Shop on the way to SF has some good stuff. City Beer Store in SF.
You can always have her go to City Beer in SF to pick up some bottles. They usually carry RR beers. I don't know if WV gets Lagunitas Sucks. If you don't, you should buy a 6 pack. You'll most likely find it at a Bevmo in Sacramento or a WF in SF/Sacramento.
We don't have Lagunitas, but I can drive across the border into PA to get it. I love everything from them so far.
Excellent selections, we must have linked tasted buds. I was going to say Simtra and Hoptologist. Track 7 Panic is very good too, and available in cans at Total Wines. Pliny is an "ask for" beer and my experience with it is that stores get two cases, and they are gone in a day. Timing is everything. It should be hitting my area any day, so maybe Sac is on the same delivery schedule, not sure. You asked about shipping. Are you talking check in bags or FedEx?
Simtra. Healthy Spirits is another great bottle shop in SF. Not huge, but good selection. Cans of Swami's might be up around there, and bottles of Beachwood as well. PtE might be available around town, but even at the brewery you can only pick up 4 bottles at a time. I would say have her drink as much on tap as she can so at least she can enjoy it.
