    Hello,

First of all want to introduce myself as a new member to BA. I look forward to reviewing brews and discussing the world of craft beer with all of you.

I am getting married in a few weeks and I came upon an idea to have an epic beer tasting night at a house I am renting for my groomsmen and friends, the night before the wedding. I figured I would post an open thread to see if you guys would like to recommend any must haves for the evening. There should be about 11 of us there.

One thing I will say before I take any suggestions is that there are a couple of big selections already confirmed on making an appearance:

    Pliny the Elder
    Westvleteren 12
    Founders KBS
    Heady Topper

Bottom line is I am looking to have a good time with friends who also enjoy great beer. Most of the guys are coming in from out of town so I want to show them a good time. I think it will be neat to take a group photo of all of these great beers and the empty beer bottles at the end of the night, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks,

    Tennessee

Definitely try and insert some Bourbon County Brand Stout in there

Congrats! I have to ask this: If you're getting married in two weeks will you be able to acquire the beers that are recommended in here in time for your tasting?

Your off to a great start already. Maybe some Firestone Walker Anniversary or Abyss since it just came out too. Zombie Dust if you can get your hands on it, something from Hill Farmstead.

Good question. I guess I should have been more specific; the date of the wedding isn't until the end of the month so technically I guess I have about 3.5 weeks. With some friends in high (and low) places I have been able to get the major beers that I listed earlier and these guys are also bringing in some selections of their own. The more options, the more chances of getting a great "cornucopia" of beer; some may fall by the wayside but ya never know until you try.

Thanks for the early responses! Keep them coming!

Just be careful the tasting isn't too epic, or the misses might have something to say about it the next day...

IMHO I'd start with the Westy 12 and other non hoppy beers before moving toward those. The ol' taste buds will appreciate it a bit more that way.

If you can't get the Westy try Rochefort 10 or St Bernardus ABT 12.

    Congrats by the way...

Congrats man, I proposed on Thanksgiving AM and brought out some big guns I've been waiting to try in the cellar to celebrate. For sure try to get some Hills Farmstead, Lawson's, maybe a day trip to VT to make it happen. Locally keep your eyes peeled at New England Brewing (NEBCO), Gandhi Bot in particular. Also if you're not too far Treehouse in Brimfield MA had a great selection.

Overall go for diversity. IPAs, Sours, BA Stouts. It'll be a great time.

Not only that, but you might want to consider capping the epic beers to be 8-10 total. Your palate will fatigue as the night goes on, and given the high quality beers you already have in place, everyone will be better off staying somewhat sober and fully enjoying them all.

I second the FW 17, Abyss, and Bourbon County suggestions above. Not only are they fantastic beers, but they also just came out, so they should be relatively easy to acquire.

A wedding tasting should probably include Mexican Cake

Congrats and welcome! You've got great stuff already but I might look for a few beers with lower ABVs for the aforementioned reasons. Maybe some nice Lambics? Cantillon is incredible but not easy to get, especially in the time frame. There are other great ones, though.Enjoy!

It might be the 1 time in your life that you can justify dropping money on a Utopias. I did so for my upcoming pre-wedding celebration in Feb. They can be hard to find, but since they are so expensive, you might find one by calling around yet. BTW, congrats & welcome!

I had a beer tasting at my bachelor part. What we did is a tasting where everyone brought 4 different beer all different styles, locations, and 2 had to be beer u had never had. Despite the lack of "semi whales" it was real fun andfar less expensive. I also had slot of great beer I never had before.

It sounds like you're looking for beers that are kind of a big deal but also not impossible to acquire, a few that come to mind just off the top of my head (previously stated or not) are...

    Bourbon County Brand Stout
    Black Note
    Anything Cantillon
    Darkness
    Black Tuesday
    Zombie Dust
    Parabola
    Supplication
    Consecration
    Parabola
    Any HotD FFTW
    Huna
    Anything HF

I appreciate the congratulations and wow lots of good advice on here and a great amount of picks from all of you guys.

Thank you very much for your help so far. I think I am going to stick to around 12 beers or so as advised by smartassboiler, even though I'm going over his limit by two.

    Some common ones...

    Darkness
    Parabola
    Bourbon County Brand Stout
    Zombie Dust
    Hills Farmstead

Looks like these will definitely have to be added. Also, can't forget the Mexican cake...

    Hmmm....marriage......how about Punishment from Stone?

Ha. Too easy! But seriously, how about Boon Oude Geuze Mariage Parfait? Seems appropriate.
