So the wifey and I are heading to Asheville this week. We lived down there for a few years and the beer scene has really changed since 2009. Obviously we are going to hit up Highland Brewing and Asheville Pizza and Brewing. What other new breweries are worth our time down there?

Just got back from our family's trip there.

Wicked Weed. Hands down. Great atmosphere, excellent food. And exceptional beer. Their sours are delicious, and the Freak of Nature is a top notch DIPA.

Drive over to Black Mountain and get some Pisgah.

And if you are looking for wiz-bang food, Curate is delicious.

Wicked Weed and Burial (assuming a weekend for Burial since I think they are only open Thurs - Sun).

Wicked Weed, Green Man, Pisgah, Hi-Wire, Burial. Bruisin' ales for a bottle shop.

I prefer Appalachian Vintners to Brusin' Ales though not by a ton as both are great bottleshops.

Many....many threads asking this same type of vague question about the AVL area, several of which are probably visible on the subforum main page as you typed this.

To be fair, the OP was asking what's new since 2009, not just where to go in Asheville (if you read beyond the thread's subject line...).

What about New Belgium? Did they open their facility yet and is it worth going?

Not open. Hell, not even a foundation has been poured as far as I know.

On the news this morning they were talking about some construction delays due to something New Belgium is trying to do that is environmentally friendly and it had to do with the soil. When I last ran into one of their employees he said, " 2015 " as an opening estimate.

Yeaa... The soil is radioactive or something like that due to what was there previous so they're cleaning it all up still. You can see it across the river

It's an old brownsfield site.. they've got to clean up the site and go through all the remediation before they can build on it.

I hear New Belgium pounding those support beams in daily.

I would guess the soil is pretty fertile considering it is the old livestock auction.
