Delirium Noel is a MUST try during the cold december days. Mad Elf is another great buy, and southern tier's 2XMAS is a solid brew as well.

Sam Adams Merry Maker. 9% gingerbread stout. Had it at a tasting, loved it. Trying it again Friday and hoping it lives up to my hype.

Just had Great Lakes Christmas Ale last night. Great ale but I'm looking for something more extreme.

Dark Horse 4 Elf is pretty solid. Almost like gingerbread in a glass, but in a good way.

Of the Belgian Ales, Gouden Carolus Noel is the best. I'm still looking at American offerings.

Right now I'm really enjoying Southern Tier's 2XMAS and Troegs Mad Elf.

I've been digging 4 Elf as well. I purchased my third 4 pack in the last two weeks today. I like spiced beers but I don't want them overspiced - in particular ginger. So many pumpkin beers don't hit the spot for me because they have too much ginger. But I love all the other baking spices like allspice, cinnamon... And I like how I don't pick up on the alcohol even those it is 8.75% abv. 4 Elf is perfect for me.

    Gotta try:Widmer Brrrrr!

    3.84/5
    look: 3.75 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 4 | feel: 4 | overall: 3.75

Another good winter warmer, alternative to celebration ale and others, must try it.

A: Pours mahogany, amber in color, with a 1-2 finger very THICK head with lasting and tons of lacing. Sticky.

S: Smells too faintly compared to the robust look and taste. And it's winter, so want more aroma! Will let it warm. hoppy, citrus, bread and caramel.

T: Follows the smell and brings much more interest: Spice and pine. Good bitterness. Great long interesting twisting finish, twisting like a candy cane of caramel, pine and bitterness. Floral and citrus ride on core of bread and caramel. Almost a bit salty, makes me want a pretzel. I really like the taste, this is what makes it a must try.

M: The body is medium as is carbonation.

D: Widmer Winter Warmer - Well done! I really like this beer and it gets better as it warms. Lots of long-lasting flavor.

Normally my yearly favorite is Great Lakes Christmas Ale, and while it's good this year, it just tastes a bit lighter than in years previous. It's the same, but a bit watered down to me. I don't know, maybe I'm crazy or my palette has changed.

Last year I tried Holiday Spice Lager by Lakefront and loved it. It has a high ABV, but you can't taste it because of the strong herbs and spices. If you can find that one, it's definitely worth a try.

Port City Tidings is delicious. Definitely worth a try if you're in the VA/DC/MD area.
